That was a great evening down the pub with an old work colleague, who's a wicked guy and always a pleasure to spend time with. Made even better by the fact that he now works for a games mag and blagged me a copy of Gears Of War!!! (AND the Dungeon Siege box set too!)

(I'm still dead jealous that he actually has a Wii, though).

And OTHER work colleague and friend who came out has done a fucking fantastic picture for the Barbelith Christmas CD. And I'm in the picture.

Did I ever mention that my friends fucking rock? I really need to do something really cool or spectacularly kind very soon just to keep up.

Hee hee hee hee.

I just resigned.

Heee.

*Does a little dance*

And I'm going to do creative work, with the coolest company I've ever interviewed with.

And it was going to have to be a paycut, but they changed their minds and offered me the same salary as I'm currently on to 'make sure they got me'

And my new boss is the nicest chap I've met in a business setting evar.

And he said in the interview, 'we do a lot of work, for a lot of companies, but I promise you we'll never work on anything to do with ID cards', cos he reads my blog and knows my politics.

And my notice with my current place combined with the delayed start in my new place means I get an extra week in the US with my fiance over Christmas and New Year.

And I won't live in hotels anymore working on grim industrial estates in the middle of nowhere.

Today is officially a GOOD DAY.

The Flame Trick Subs.

Saw 'em friday night. Some good old-fashioned psychobilly music. Know how to put on a good show, strong use of red footlights, lead guitarist with a ditchdigger face, cute drummer who does the whole set standing up. Not the best I've ever heard but they certainly deliver in a live setting.

Oh, by the way, did I happen to mention that their bass player HAS NO LEFT HAND!!!
And I'm not talking about any pansy-ass prosthetic either!

Oh? You think the guitarist in your nice little local punk band is pretty hardcore, do you? Well can he play that thing with a fucking stump? I DON'T THINK SO! FLAME TRICK SUBS! GRAAAGGGGHHH!

God has granted the opportunity to stalk this man:

as he will be coming to speak to my actors' and playwrights' group this year. The quality of visitors really is improving - they could only manage Alan Bennett and Michael Palin a few years ago.

Been in Barbelith for a while, but apart from Convo threads like the Lateshift, I always seem to stumble into awesome threads a couple of days after all the activity goes on, and feel like a spotty teenager coming down to witness the fun-looking detritus of his big brother's party. Joy then, that I've joined a very stimulating discussion on 'sandbox' games over in G&G that's going a treat.

My lovely ginger beasty of a cat has spent his first day and night in our flat, and apart from a bit of crying last night when the people went to bed has been a great big ball of purring the whole time. He has had some meals from his new food bowls, and used his new poop tray, and is curled up on the chair next to me surveying his kingdom. He is too devilishly soft and handsome for words.

Now, if we can just find a home for his former flat-mates....anyone in north london looking to adopt one of several lovely recently bereaved cats, perchance?

Wow, I am so happy. I settled a bit of bad karma today. It weighed heavy on my conscience for years, but I did what I know is right, even if it was the hardest choice.

I don't believe people should be given extra credit for actually doing, the right thing. I just wanted to eleviate my fears with a bit of a pat-on-the-back. Doing the right thing in this case means, I have to overcome those fears, face them, and get on with life anyway.

I have been given happy by an optometrist called Brian, who has generated enough lens power to improve my 'uncorrectable' duff retinas. I get to wear sexyspecs and can see great with the right and the left will now see the big letter at the top! No more zooming on teh Peecee!

I saved and saved, now I have a TV! First time in 12 months I can sit down and watch whatever at home! It's a Sony 32" Bravia KDLV2000 blah blah blah... The picture quality is good, very good and I can plug a PC into the back of it too and play games on the big screen... The first thing I am watching tonight is Black Books Vol 3.

Then you will see the above mentioned actor Julian Rhind-Tutt. Heīs Travel Writer Jason Hamilton in episode 5. I believe itīs the same episode where Bernard tries to assasinate the cat living in the flat above him.

hopefully it was a good quality waxin' as the ingrown hairs that appear in the bad ones are a crying shame....

My happy thought is the memory of the spouse re enacting the eldest catson's attempt at a bit of covert ambush butt wiggling that was thwarted by the younger catson's triumphant tag-your-it smack to the head. The human version was hysterical to watch and the layered image of the catsons doing the same is great.
