Stoatie. Stoatie? STOATIE.

That's my new favourite joke. EVER.

I don't know what it is but the board is basically rocking my face off atm. From the "paganism < Christ" thread, the following exchange:

Ev: Of course, notwithstanding your cut-and-paste above, you still haven't even attempted to answer my question: how reason led you to the conclusion that Catholic Christianity is the objective truth, and that "the Church is making all the claims worth making."

In your own words.

Calvin: Do you reinvent the wheel every time you catch a bus?

Then over in comics we find this, which is just awesome.

I know it's frowned on to spam pictures in the Temple, so I'll put it here...

Do you reinvent the wheel every time you catch a bus full of ***s?

Fixed.

15:40 / 11.04.08
Of course, the tragedy of it all is that that's exactly the kind of discussion about Christianity and other faiths I'd LIKE to have in the Temple. Just not with someone who's uninterested in discussion (or who uses racial slurs to piss off the imaginary "PC Brigade"). Hence my steering well fucking clear.

We could continue the discussion regardless of that nuisance. I'm sure many barbelithians have interesting stories and information about the issue.

I'm busy now going over older threads on that.

(Plus, maybe it's best for me to quit while I'm ahead.)

DRR... DRR... DRR...

15:59 / 11.04.08
Actually--after we got the obligatory "OMG yr basing teh n00bz yr so meeeeeeen!" crap out of the way--people settled down to engage with the topic and it became quite an interesting discussion. Calvin's crashingly poor input now serves more to throw the the tasty stuff into relief.

I'll still give it a while, I think.

OK, I have a challenge, and it's for everybody, but especially Mordant and to a lesser extent (recently at least) Haus.

This is my challenge: Next time you post to Barbequotes, why not cite something you find amusing or interesting (in a positive way), rather than irritating or stupid?

It's a crazy idea, but it might just work, and moreover I think it would make a refreshing change.

I don't especially want to have a go at people and however much I try to be diplomatic it never works anyway, but it genuinely does get me down to have my attention repeatedly drawn in a "look at this, isn't it awful, aren't they wrong?" way to what other posters think is wrong with Barbelith.

I come to Barbequotes hoping to read the best of Barbelith, not the worst, and I don't think I'm entirely alone in this - and so I humbly submit that quoting stuff that annoys you should perhaps be done in the aptly-named Barbannoy thread from now on.

Just a thought. Outraged ripostes to the usual address.

Oh, you can't be so perfectly barbequotable while ruling yourself out of barbequotability. It's not fair.

Quantum of Solace
17:59 / 11.04.08
That's not hurt feelings. That's me mocking you.

Mordant, in that thread. I laughed out loud.

DRR... DRR... DRR...

But it's not annoying me anymore, I think it's really funny.

DRR... DRR... DRR...
(prev. Mordant)
20:50 / 11.04.08
Also, going back a few pages I can only find two quotes of so-bad-it's-good way (3 if you count that link to the Comics thread), with a funny Keggers joke in between. I think you're just trying to SILENCE and OPPRESS me. Probably with SCIENCE.

But okay I'll try to post lovely things for a bit.

And to be fair, that Keggers joke was good enough to make up for at least three pages of annoyance.

NOT TO DIE OF PIES BEFORE END OF SERIES 4, CRIBBINS!

I dunno why, but every time I read Whisky's comment about Bernard Cribbins, I laugh like a goofball. I just imagine it being said with so much emphasis and possibly, hand gestures.

Erm, don't we have a thread for irritating stuff?

Alex's Grandma in the current Doctor Who thread:

If I was the Docter, I'd rather be tripping the light fantastic with a dalek, frankly. Okay, the thing would be trying to kill you a lot, but at least it would be honest about it.

Sadly, this caused me to ponder (a) the logistics of having a Dalek companion and (b) what Dalek pillow talk must sound like.

Glenn M in the gift-that-keeps-on-giving which is the Kris Marshall BT ads thread:

KM is jumping up and down on his great, galumphing clown's feet, making noises like Tom Baker at the fireworks.

And my mind's ear knows exactly what that would sound like ...

From the Mario Kart "thread":

My number is 4596-9800-356. Add me. We'll race. It'll be awesome.

I can't be the only one who thought that was totally fucking brilliant, right? Can't you just imagine the slow-mo transitional fade ins of hir lying on the bed, stomach down (legs up, swinging them), playing Wii as the number appears on the screen, accompanying that fantastic invitation?

Intention to ban has been stated, concerns have been outlined, red velvet lines the black box, Calvin appears to have been released into the wild in any case; could it not reasonably be suggested that it's time little cowboys were in bed?

Mordant/Hole. It's really the little cowboys who are cranky and need to go night-night that sell it to me.

The BBC: Why the seal attempted to have sex with the penguin is unclear.

The 100kg seal first subdued the 15kg penguin by lying on it. The seal then alternated between resting on the penguin, and thrusting its pelvis, trying to insert itself, unsuccessfully.

Mist: Hm, I read that with the Attenborough voice. Nature will find a way.

22:47 / 05.05.08
Strong Truth, and for me, a workable alibi for the fact that my anime-related topic starters are always so pedestrian - I'm trying to cut down the git milk factor so as not to scare off the unconverted. This might not yet be Bar/b/elith, but no one wants it becoming B/a/rbelith either. Unless I'm wrong and more people would like to get PROMOTED.

I don't understand either, and I AM a... I think I should probably leave it at that. If for no other reason than that I don't want to read any more of the Iron Man thread now the movie's out and there'll be spoilers, so context could be an issue.

Definitely.

This exchange in Gives me a Happy is suitably lovely:

Mr. Flunchy: I'm going to make my move at the Leatherback Turtle exhibit. That place is always deserted and has soothing ambient ocean sounds to set the mood. Hopefully the enormous stuffed carcass won't distract.

Whisky Priestess: Well, that sounds promising. Taxidermy is so erotic.

Papers, anyone, anywhere?: Taxidermy is so Erotic: The Musical!

Go make now.
