I'm more than willing to organise a meet here in the States--probably limited more to the Midwest, the Northeast, and the South than anything else--but would like suggestions such as:

Where?

When?

What considerations must be taken?

And anything else I've currently overlooked.

Send 'im on in and let's get this ball rolling!

If none of y'all have criminal records, I recommend exotic Montréal in the wintertime. I have somewhat selfish reasons for this, but it's also a beautiful city, unique in North America, and feels more like a European getaway than anywhere else in the northeast barring perhaps Québec City.

I know Queer Pirate is a Montrealer, and Rising and Revolving, if he has not already moved.

I'm currently in Syracuse and about to move to New York City (was just there for a job interview, fingers crossed, please NYC, I bow to your will...) anyway, I don't really have money to travel but if it's next year I ought to be in the city anyway. (this may be an incentive for some of you to have it earlier, then.)

I barely post here often enough to qualify just above "lurker" threshold, so feel free to not worry about me showing up if it's not convenient. I'm not going to do anything to disprove the current contention that barbeguys have beards and glasses, I'm afraid.

Well I love, as they say, New York.

I'm going to be in Asheville, NC from the 13th-17th of November. Living in Colorado, I don't get out east very much, but if any local eastern Barbeloids would like to have a drink, I'd be glad to meet up.

Montreal in the SUMMER, now we're talking. Hit while one
of the MANY festivals are on and we can do the Tam-tam,
beer gardens, and I can get some Fairmount bagels again,
finally. It's been a long 5 years.

Montreal, as they say, totally rocks ass.

So far that's three votes for Montreal. You people must really want poutine.

21:40 / 26.10.06
New York is certainly easier for me.

21:46 / 26.10.06
NYC is way easier for me too, since I live in Brooklyn, but
Montreal is a great city. I'm not sure if they still have
it but there used to be a great film festival at the end of
the summer there called FANTASIA, it was anime/horror film
festival.

Montreal: 3

New York: 2

Anywhere else?

Are those the only two cities we can come up with?

Count me in for the Montreal one. The others...not so sure about.

There was only one other city.

so far

...it would be nice to see Montreal again. If it's the summer, I should be back in North America... I would suggest Toronto but I could use a vacation

this whole site is wank
02:23 / 27.10.06
Portland, Oregon

we have a good crew here already, always down for more to party with

I'm going to be in Asheville, NC from the 13th-17th of November.
Well, damn- I live right near Asheville. I might be in NYC then, but I kinda doubt it now. Perhaps we could meet up if you've got time. Why do so many people from Colorado move here, anyway (not that you're moving here)? I'll bet you're visiting someone you know from there who's moved here. From Boulder.
But if there is a meet in NYC I might be able to make it, I've got three siblings living there so yay for me a free place to stay. I have to go there sometime in the next six months, anyway.

My parents actually live about an hour from Asheville.

This seems to be turning into a Northeastern Barbe-meet considering there seem to be more of us on this side of the coast.

It is very strange to see my hometown of Asheville mentioned in here. Was last there is April '06. If opportunity pressents, do check out the Firecracker Jazz Band. Swing dancing and all at The Green Man. Blow kisses to the homeland from me; I'm not likely to be there anytime soon.

Hmm. It looks like Montreal's the front-runner at the moment.

Poutine for everyone!

How about a nice central location, like Kansas? On second thought, Montreal sounds nice. I'm gonna go research airfare prices to see if this is at all feasible for a Texan.

Baz Auckland
01:09 / 31.10.06
Go Anywhere in North America for $278!

...sure it's a 48 hour trip from Texas, but you can't beat the price!

charrellz
10:39 / 31.10.06
Oh, wow. I had been debating the NABM (humh...perhaps we should think of a better abbreviation, that one's a little to close to NAMBLA) versus the viability of making it to a London meet-up, but at that kind of price I just might be able to do both. And 48 hours doesn't seem that long when you have a Nintendo DS for a best friend. And books. Lots of books. Thanks for the heads-up regarding this brilliant method of travel.

I once did a 72-hour Toronto to Alaska bus ride, and it really wan't so bad... you get to see a lot of the country...

I get restless on a bus. I love trains, though...

I would be willing to help out if this takes place in Montreal. Any plans for this yet?

MattShepherd: LARGELY ABSENT!
20:47 / 11.11.06
Sign me up for a little assistance, but I'm in Sherbrooke so I can't do much actual groundwork.

Mistress of Cats Kali

I think we have Montreal as a clear winner.

Unless anyone disagrees.

YAY! I am at your service.

Mistress of Cats Kali

I'm guessing it will be best for all North American 'Lithers to meet after the first of the year, yeah?

Papess
18:23 / 16.11.06
Just a tip, but we may want to set a date sometime after Montreal thaws out. Unless, of course, people are really into that much snow.

Caleigh
15:53 / 17.11.06
If we are going to have a Barbemeet in Montreal can I suggest we somehow include the TamTam?

Mistress of Cats Kali
(prev. Kali, somewhat sheepish.)
16:06 / 17.11.06
If we can decide on when to meet, then I'll start hashing out details.

Ooh, I sound so organise-y.

Papess
16:40 / 17.11.06
Tam-Tams on Mount Royal? That is definately a spring/summer thing. It may be a good idea to give people time to organize it and themselves, to have the meet at that time, anyway. I thinking of a time frame somwhere between the end of April through to August-ish. There are also a ton of festivals including film, comedy, arts...and so on.
