OK, but I refuse to be the evening's 'Buster' and let's hope ballistics gel is not requiered after any of the activities!

I will be there and I have put up an appetite-whetting YouTube clip in the appropriate Convo thread.

Okay, so whomever has a beard has to pretend to be Jamie even if only for a little bit.

(I'm starting to wonder about my own inordinate interest in Mythbusters.....)

I am impressed.

Well, ho, ho, ho! *tries really hard to grow 5 o'clock shadow by Christmas*

Anyway, I think we should make some plans. I think people would really like to see some attractions here. I would like to recommend maybe a Cirque du Soleil show.

Here is a brochure from Tourism Montreal. Just for some ideas of what is available. There is so much more than that.

All I want to do is have brunch at L'Avenue du Plateau, and have a sandwich at Les Vivres. Maybe a night of
dancing at Passeport or Foufounes as well.

Papess

esNice. Brunch at L'Avenue du Plateau is lovely and Foufounes is still rockin'. Have you tried Cafe Santropol before, Caleigh? I

I'm a probable. What's the parking situation in Montreal? Would driving my own vehicle be a ginormous pain in the ass?

Papess
03:49 / 07.12.06
That all depends, Jake. If you stay downtown, you may not really need it. If you stay near the airport, on the Décarie, or West/East Island, having a car might be useful.

If anyone has any questions, or would like to send me specs on the kind of accomodation they would prefer, then I can do some "legwork" and find places that are at fair rates or centrally located - whatever you need. Just PM me anytime.

So, YAY, Jake is..err..tentative!

Caleigh

Santropol? Certainment!

I lived in Montreal 2000-2001 on Henri Julien just south of of Mt. Royal so the plateau was my 'hood.

Okay, so I'm 99% sure I'm coming. Also, I may drive, which means that I can pick up 'lithers in maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and, if you're really hard up, Massachusetts. My car seats four comfortably, five uncomfortably. Any takers? If people need rides I'll definitely drive.

That is a lovely offer, Jake.

For those of you who wish to brush up on Québécois and charm the locals.

I'm in NH, when are we doing this and who has a floor I'm sleeping on? What's the plan and how do you say "Pardon me, can you direct me to the local corsetmaker?"
Should I get a hotel room as you all will be dancing with strangers on top of the TV at 5 AM and I'm old?

I have the UK 'lith folks for refs as they barbe-meet'd me in august. I'm good with buying rounds and trolling the occult bookstores.

Seth can vouch for my down with curry dishes-ness.

Ahem. Correction: I will PM Electrix and ask her when a good time for her to open her hostel to all of us vagabonds, roustabouts, etc.

I wish I could whip us up some dates, but then it'd backfire horribly in some way.

Did someone say, whip up some dates? Oh, my pleasure and thank you, Kali.

I will give an approximate range of one week, from about - Wednesday, May 30th to Wednesday June 6th - I hope that is workable. I will be as flexible as I can be, if there is any dispute over dates. In any case, I will keep the Friday to Monday portion of the time period chosen, available to us.

I stayed in this nice hostel before, and it was a pretty decent place... right in the middle of the Old City and all...

That timeframe sounds workable. xk, I'll pick you up in NH if you need a ride. I haven't decided whether I'll be hotelling it or imposing on some wonderful person and their couch, but all will become clear nearer the date.

XK

that's mighty fine of you sir!
I'm not sure how you want to break up the driving but I can offer some couch space at my shack if it isn't a straight run up north?

Juan Gone

That would depend on whether others need a ride. If it's just you, we could jet up there immediately, but if someone from the Southern NE states needs a ride it might be a little much for one day.

I want to say: it is great to see everyone working together to make this happen. Good vibes, good vibes...

I have a couple of people I need to reply to. I apologize for the delay. Give me till tonight when I will have more time. Just making quick posts right now, (and some chicken soup!). Cheers all!

Do you need a passport to go to Canada now? Or am I imagining that? I crossed the border last in summer 2005, and all I needed was my driver's license, although I had my birth certificate as well.

I'm afraid so... but I think only if you want to get back into the US afterwards... (you might not, you know)

I believe you only need a passport to get into Canada or Mexico if you're flying. Or at least that was my impression as I read the in-flight magazine yesterday.

Jake, since you inquired about accomodationsl, here is a list. I am posting it, (and I hope you don't mind) because it may be helpful for everyone.

I am going to post this list of places as a guide for accomodations, based on location and cost. If there is a possibility of splitting a room with someone else, it may cut expenses down. I wish I could accomodate everyone, but my place is not that big.

Anyway, the suggestion I made earlier of Ruby Foo's does not have great reviews, even though it seemed okay to me, I have never stayed there. I am tried to look for hotels that are: convenient, inexpensive, and in safer areas.

Downtown - Accessible to Metro and close to city centre.

Hotel du Fort - Not in the heart of downtown, but as one reviewer said: "It is located in the middle of 3 metros--all within a few blocks. You can be in Old Montreal via metro in @10 minutes at the most."

L'Appartement Hotel - I don't know much about this place, but it is a good location, price, and reviews.

Novotel- Good reviews, location and price. Right in one of the trendy areas of town, near Cresent St.

West Island - Closer to airport (and my place) but also, accessible to downtown through nearby Metro Station.

Quality Hotel Midtown - I have been here either, but they are a pretty good chain with good prices. This would be a good alternative to Ruby Foo's. Also, they are Kosher, apparently.

La Sunset - Good reviews, good value, close to my place, but best for those with a car as it is not close to a Metro Station.

Ruby Foo's - I put this here because the reviews are funny. I regret ever reccommending this place, but who knows, maybe someone is feeling adventurous!

I hope that helps. Anything else I can help with, please do not hesitate to ask.

Those who are coming but are uncertain of accomodations, atm:

At least, that is what I am understanding at this time. Please make corrections to the list, we can update as needed. Thanks all.

I'd really recommend passports at this point as the US border is not the most fun place to have your nationality in question.
