She's a very rich curebie who makes a lot of noise (and cash) on the chat show circuit, touting ill-supported and very costly "cures" for autism. Oh yeah and she's a fucking indigo child.

For those interested in various U.S. church positional relations to Coulter's words...that's exactly what I remember being told in Catholic grade school in the 80s, in a patient and kind voice. We were discussing who among the peoples of the world would go to hell, and why. The tone was different, but the words are pretty much verbatim.

That school was like the Coliseum for children and I have to stop writing/thinking about it now, but, yep, that line of thinking is definitely out there.

I'm hoping this was before JPII prayed in the Synagogue of Rome ('86), but I dunno. I'm curious, actually - it'd be nice to think that gestures like that mean something to people and create some kind of change eventually.

Here's a thing on the official Vatican stance, for the record.

According to the excellent book (damn, I'm reading a lot of those these days) Constantine's Sword, it's a classic bit of Christian supersessionism.

Anti-Semitic, as it happens, but generally accepted as conventional doctrine by plenty of Christian denominations.

Ev

To drag this down to a popcult level, and as evidence that Coulter's comments aren't really that uncommon even these days, there recently was a big debate about supersessionism and anti-Semitism over a line from the DC Comics series Countdown:

Eclipso: wrathful god: Old Testament.

Spectre: fairer god: New Testament.

Oy.

Deculture Decedent
03:09 / 13.10.07
WTF Eclipso huh now?

So, what about when the Spectre wasn't all nicenice, but in fact a holy fucking terror in a green hood, necessitating a human host? Or the fact that Eclipso's not Old Testament or Hebraic, but insanely violent, evil, and malevolent?

The trade comes out on that, nobody's going to want to mention in the comments they wrote that, are they?

Newer, kinder, christiany vengeace. Urgh!

A new story has just appeared on the BBC RSS feed about 4 million people being displaced in China by the Three Gorges dam.

This story appears about two-thirds of the way down the RSS feed.

They're building whole new cities. It's... amazing. Creates a sense of awe when you behold it.

Not much consolation when your family farm and grandparents' graves are 75 meters underwater.

A new story has just appeared on the BBC RSS feed about 4 million people being displaced in China by the Three Gorges dam.

And thatīs the people that havenīt been displaced by the dam yet. One million people already had to move. The official chinese media for the first time publicly admitted, that the dam has caused many serious ecological problems one month ago (according to Financial Times Germany). There is worse contamination of the water than was anticipated, due to the flooding of dumpsites, graveyards, city and village remains and factories.

One million people already had to move.

Are you sure about this number? I would have expected more already moved - whole cities have been rebuilt. I'd suspect Fengdu and Fuling combined would be at least 750,000 people alone....

I got that from the FTG article. In this article it says 1.4 million people, though.

Primus. Not the band, the stupid phone company.

See, I didn't plug in the VoIP gateway because I thought that Primus no longer did business with me. My friends have been calling the number, and even though I hadn't plugged in the VoIP thingy, I certainly had my number forwarded to the landline here. BUt they all called me to no avail. Since it seems that you cut me off your service for being late on my payment back in June. YET!, I find that you have been billing me every month. Now Primus doesn't want to reimburse me for the months that I was unaware I was being charged for, yet not receiving their service. Yeah, they will reimburse me for 1 month, but they say my service was not cut off and that it is my problem for not notifying them earlier. How was I supposed to notify them earlier when I only realized that I was being billed for a service that I thought I wasn't receiving (but in fact was supposed to be it just wasn't working), just today?

Critics argue they are delaying motherhood for the wrong motives, such as climbing the career ladder or until they have more money.

And what the fuck do these critics think are the "right" motives?

Here I was thinking "Warning issued over egg freezing" might mean I shouldn't be keeping my self-contained breakfast products in my freezer anymore.

Yeh, I wish I could. I have been trying to reason this out. The problem is my son is not the type to cower, so he gets blamed for reacting to bullying by these parents.

I wish I had an information stapler. I just want the bullying to stop and now I find myself in the middle of all these people's social issues. Fuck, I hate this community. My son has just turned seven and is being picked on by nine, ten and twelve year olds. It is sickening.

If these parents don't do anything and more violence is done to my son, I am going to have the parents charged.

Sounds like the way to go. The problem may be to gather evidence of such violence, though. Plan it well

Oh, and as a former victim of bullying, I so sympathise with you. I remember how frustrated my own parents were for not being able to do more to protect me, other than being there for me and promising they would back me up if ever I decided to figth back, no matter what (which they did). That alone made me feel secure enough and strong enough and loved enough to break out of the vicious cycle. So, what I'm saying is, you're doing the right thing for your kid (not that you need me to tell you that, of course)

Thanks, DM. I feel like a useless tool. It brings up a lot of past issues for me too. I have to keep that out of it. I have to go and speak to some more parents tonight. Wish me well. This really sucks.

Feeling useless against a situation that is unfair and hard to change is perfectly natural. But I assure you, to your kid, you're anything but. He notes you're there for him, and God, does that make a huuuge difference. He may see now the world as unfair, but not home. NOT HOME! I cannot stress aenough how much that helps. You might just be raising a little hero there who will do his best to mitigate evil wherever he finds it in his adulthood. EXCELLENT PARENTING, in my book. Keep yout hopes up, and give the boy lots of hugs and make sure he knows it is far more important what he thinks of himself than what such stupid kids - and their stupid parents - think of him.

"Victory will come at the end to those who deserve it. If it hasn't come yet, it's just because it's not the end yet", said once to me a wise friend

Or me, for that matter.

One parent actually said to me "My son never lies to me."

As Venger said to me a minute ago "Does that kid's feet get wet when he walks on water?" Hehe, good to have friends.

Good advice, btw, DM.

Absolutely, this always happens. Kids who get knocked around try and get help from a teacher, only to be told to stand up for themselves - and then when they do, they get in trouble for being violent.

Have you considered Karate lessons, kick-boxing, jiu-jitsu etc?

"Why waste taxpayers' money for what some people consider an occupational hazard?

There are enough sympathetic victims without wasting time on prostitutes who ask for trouble, right?

But crimes are prosecuted not out of sympathy for victims, but to maintain the rule of law in a civilized society, to punish a criminal and prevent further crime."

Badger culling back on the agenda.

Farmer Peter Ganblett :"The problem we are up against is everyone has the image of lovely, fluffy badgers galloping about, but cows are also entitled to lives."

Right. It's all about keeping those lovely bovine friends which farmers like to keep in the fields happy, isn't it? Before culling, ahem, humanely killing them, with a short bolt between the eyes, for profit.

Where I live there's going to be a 53 per cent rise in the average flat price over the next five years.

Some areas, such as Brunswick in Hove, are predicted to rocket in price by as much as 73.9 per cent, bringing the value of the average flat to an astonishing Ģ423,529.

The *average* flat Ģ400k? The already massively overpriced houses are going up by half again? That means the average house will increase in value by about Ģ40k a year, so house owners can make more money by sitting in their front room watching TV than I and my partner combined will earn by working.
It's just insane.
