Hostels in New Zealand?

I need to find out about cool hostels in Auckland. Wellington and Taranaki, all on the North Island of New Zealand. I'm looking for a place with a cool party atmosphere. Somewhere fun.

Please help me!

Also - Any advice on what to do in the North Island would be appreciated. And I might visit the South Island too.

Ummm. The cooler hostels tend to be in little places - the city ones can be a bit big and busy. Central backpackers down by Fort Street seems okay, and has a good bar on the roof. And there's one in Mount Eden, behind the ASB bank, that always looked good. Oh, and the one looking over the Domain seemed a bit of a party house. I was living there permanently, in a flat, so haven't tried the hostels.

North island - the Coromandel's gorgeous, as is the Bay of Islands. Rotorua's very touristy and smelly but worth a visit. Wellington's a cool city, so try to spend some time there.

I never made it to Milford Sound (at the very south of the South Island) but its meant to be amazing.
