How do you make fake blood?

I want to douse myself in blood for Halloween and since I've sold or sacrificed all my livestock I have to resort to the fake kind. Something that washes out of white dress shirts would definitely be advantageous.

It really depends on how far you're willing to go. There are a number of ways to make fake blood, but the simplest and I suppose cheapest is to mix one can of clear corn syrup with a tablespoon of red food coloring and a tablespoon of yellow food coloring. You can toss in some water to thin it out a bit.

Depends if you want the colour or consistency. You see, the tough stuff in making it on movie sets, etc, is the consistency - it's thick stuff, and stains easily.

Trij has the right idea, but google for it - there are some good explanations on line. They tend to involve corn syrup or honey - the red's usually colouration in something thick and gloopy.

First off-- You will not be able to get hold of a non-staining formula. Your best bet is to get hold of a cheap dress shirt secondhand.

As to fake blood... if it' just going down the front of your shirt, then lemon washing-up liquid mixed with red food colouring and a little coffee can be quite convincing. If you plan to ingest/drool your Kensington gore, then the corn syrup mixture above is good. If you want to be a little more convincing, rasberry icecream sauce with (again) a dash of strong coffee might be the way to go.

If you need a scar or a knifewound or summat, try building up layers of white PVA glue and tissue-paper, overlaying it with poster-paints (or whatever makeup you can nick).

Does raspberry ice cream sauce have bits of real raspberries in it? I wanna see some blood that's been oozing for so long that you're seeping pathetic little clots. Bloody gore, man, gore's great.

Karo syrup. Red food coloring. Some red jello powder stirred in for substance. And if you really want to go far: milk. Yes milk. It does a zombie good.
