Psychobilly Freakout!

I'm a fan of it; psychobilly, punkabilly, cowpunk, alt. country, whatever you want to call it. It's the type of music I'm trying to play as I get better with a guitar, it's a growing portion of my library, and I just think it's great to bring old-school style back with a twist. Anybody else a fan, have any good recommendations for other acts I should check out?

I love the Cramps. Especially when they had Bryan Gregory on the second guitar.

I can't understand why they're not on more movie soundtracks - so evocative of a certain thing. (Pierce Brosnan walking through the Mexican hotel lobby in boots and a Speedo, carrying a whiskey to "Garbage Man" in Matador... that did it. Oddly, the thing in Return of the Living Dead kinda didn't.)

I really need to plumb their sources deeper - especially Charlie Feathers.

Ooh, thanks for the name, I should check him out.

I couldn't really nail down what appeals to me about the genre, except that I love the sound, and the straight-forward appeal of it. I'm not trying to knock things like prog, because I enjoy that too, but a lot of rockabilly and its derivatives seem like a very straight shot, have fun kinda thing, y'know what I mean?

Hank III is very good, too; forgot to list him in the summary.
