Dressing up 101

I was going to try and start this out like one of the serious 101 threads for laffs, but I couldn't even pretend it should be snark-free.

So, there have been a few times when people (including me) have started little threads about a theme party they were going to, seeking advice about how best to dress for it. I thought it would be convenient if we had a thread we could all use, since we would not only be fighting for our fellow 'lithers right to party on a case-by-case basis, but also maybe build up a pretty cool selection of costume ideas to be raided at will.

That said, I obv have a specific party in mind right now. I'm going to a party on Saturday and the theme is 'wedding', and I don't want to do either of the obvious choices (i.e., wedding dress or tux), and was trying to think of an interesting way to tackle it. Things you should know: I am totally shameless and there is nothing too embarrassing for me to wear. And I have little money but lots of time on my hands.

Father of the Bride. For this you just need to dye your hair grey and then obstruct people from doing things (helping themselves to a drink, dancing, getting to the bathroom) until they have first asked your permission.

You could then go dressed as a Valkyrie to shift the reference laterally somewhat.

The marriage license? Complete with exceptions, provisos, pre-nup. "Does not apply to ... Void where prohibited... 5¢ REFUND AVAILABLE IN MI, IA, CA, CT . . . " Or maybe make it a learner's permit...put a big red "L" on it... Alternatively, Go as the divorce lawyer?

Or, rather than the license, try its brother licentiousness...

The Church.

Or, alternativly, go as Drunk Uncle Jimmy. You know, the guy who you've never seen without a bottle in his hand, and he's always a little to loud and scary to really get to know, because he's always wasted? No?

Honestly, I think the cake or marriage license are the best ways to go.

Father of the Bride. For this you just need to dye your hair grey and then obstruct people from doing things (helping themselves to a drink, dancing, getting to the bathroom) until they have first asked your permission.

And if it's a Mafia Wedding, you'll have to grant wishes.

Hmm, with thanks for all the replies, I think I have decided to go as a cross-dressed bridal couple with a friend. I am slightly concerned that having a spouse at the party may reduce my chances of picking up, but who knows? Maybe we'll find some swingers.
