Tech help sought: virus-riddled fax

This one's a bit of a teaser...
Every time i try to download a particular file on hotmail it says "unknown virus scanner failure virus found". I've even got the person to re-send it as a fax. I use an e-fax facility whereby it goes straight to my hotmail address, but that reports the same error message when i try to download.

How can you get a virus on a fax (fer fuck's sake)?
Are there other webmail things that work better than hotmail?

Dunno. Hotmail can be an arse at times, wrt identifying a virus when there isn't one. Maybe try setting up a free Yahoo account and get it sent there instead.

Almost every webmail option is better than Hotmail. Yahoo is pretty good, or I have many Gmail invites left (or go to gmailomatic).
