Shut Up ! Don't Cry!

Don't know how many of you this will mean much to, but Roger Young the drummer from proto-punk, Reeperbahn straddling, howling, Genius, Freak monkeys The Monks died on Monday.

They're my favourite band, responsible for, I think, the greatest album of all time "Black Monk Time", and I am gutted.

Thoughts to his friends and family.
"Oh, how to do now?"

Where did you hear this, Mr Savage? Wasn't the drummer called Roger Johnston?

It's true.
Both of it, that is - he was called Roger Johnston, and he is dead.
Sad news indeed.

In the true Monks spirit of confusion I got his name wrong.
Grief clouded my eyes, you see.

Just listened to "Black Monk Time" at ludicrous volume while writing an article on The Monks for a Mate's blog.

It just doesn't get any better than that album.

And I never got to see them live.

Here's what I wrote about them anyway. (You have to scroll down a bit to find it). http://www.20jazzfunkgreats.blogspot.com,
