Now, I went walkin' down by Queensway

There was a whole album with The Beatles' Abbey Road

Was "Penny Lane" in London? Or was that Liverpool? I don't know.

There are scads of songs about Big Ben, if that's acceptable.

Damn, I used to know this Ramones-like band on mp3.com doing a song called "Tower Bridge," but I can't remember them at all and their page ain't turning up in a search. Ooo - they're on Google! The Medea Connection (has an mp3 of the song - check it out).

The Magnetic Fields – “All the Umbrellas in London” – although it’s practically cheating, since the song has squat to do with the city.

There's the "girl from Clapham" in Squeeze's 'Up the Junction'.

Even though I was listening to this song at the time, it never occured to me: Pulp - Mile End

Elvis Costello - I don't want to go to Chelsea
The Nips - Stavordale Road N5
The Popes - Holloway Boulevard

Kit-Cat Club

20:53 / 24.07.03

The Kinks, 'Big Black Smoke'

Stephen Tin Tin Duffy, 'London Girls' ('in Mummy's pearls...')

ONLY NICE THINGS

20:59 / 24.07.03

Xoc very rightly mentions the mighty "London Boys", but from the same period we have Bowie's "Maid of Bond Street". God, I love mid-to-late 60s Bowie...

Lilith Myth

21:03 / 24.07.03

How's about Frank Zappa's not-misogynistic-at-all stinker Dead Girls of London?

Axel Lambert

18:44 / 26.07.03

Pet shop boys: "London"

that

09:45 / 27.07.03

T.A.S.S. 'King's Cross Girl'

Old brown-eye is back

20:47 / 27.07.03

Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls
Carter USM - The Only Living Boy in New Cross

Naked Flame

21:42 / 27.07.03

'The Serpentine Song' by me. which is cheating, I know.

'London's Burning.' The one you sang in the playground rather than the one by the Clash...

London by Blake. which is also cheating, I realise. Sort of.

Squarepusher: North Circular.

Any track with a title of one of the most horrible roads in the world has got to be worth a listen.

Brigade du jour

Can't believe Ganesh put all those Morrissey titles and forgot 'Dagenham Dave'.

Or is Dagenham in Essex?

Or is it just shit?

Surely it's time Billy Bragg did a song called "Barking Billy" to get his own back? Big rivalry in these East London/Essex border towns, you know.

Old brown-eye is back

09:16 / 30.07.03

Ian Dury gazumped both of them with Plaistow Patricia, I think you'll find.

Brigade du jour

Bless that man. I should have known he wouldn't let the side daaahn!

'Emit Remmus' by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I heard it today and remembered this thread, so... It namechecks the Thames, Primrose Hill and Leicester Square. "London in the summertime..."
