Neko Case -- Does anyone else love her as much as me?

Probably the most powerful female vocalist in the country-ish vein (okay, alt-country, bite me) in a long time.

If you haven't heard her, then you haven't heard heartbreak's most recent chanteuse.

Yes! She rocks! A lot!

I saw her in September and she was amazing. She said it was the largest place she had ever played. (about 500 people?)

Everyone just stood open-jawed gazing at her the whole time (sigh). I need to get more of her records soon.....

I saw her supporting Calexico at Ocean, and while I dug her voice, I really didn't feel overly enthused. She's cool, but... I dunno. It just seemed a bit insipid? Maybe that was the gig, rather than her as a whole - maybe I just need to hear it on CD...

The link to her record company didn't work, but this does

Yes, she does have one honey of a voice. My brother is in love with her. In love...

I would imagine that 500 people was a lot for her. She's played Bloomington several times, to crowds of 50-75 people. I had assumed that was the norm.

I like Neko Case a lot more when she's with the New Pornographers. Much, much better songs.

Oh, but "No Need To Cry" off of Boiler Room Lullabye is a thing of perfection and beauty.

I discovered her album Fox Confessor Brings The Flood today and have listened to it a few times. That music is amazing! Her voice reminds me of Hope Sandoval, and the music sounds like Cowboy Junkies, but uplifting instead of depressing.

I hope the next days will leave me enough time to integrate this music, because next week itīs time for Joanna Newsomīs new album and the exclusive listening to it.

Tell her "Hi" for me, and that my wife still hasn't caught on, so there's nothing to worry about.

well, howabout that? i saw Ms Case last night at Koko in Camden, (supported by the incredibly dull M Ward) and she was great. unfortunately her band weren't. it was a big crowd and it all seemed a little restrained, a little polite and lacking in punch. Apparently her usual bassist was absent, and a stand up bassist was standing in, so maybe that had something to do with it, but I have heard quite a few live tracks and they were much more ballsy than that. Ah well, she was in fine voice and lovely as ever.

but my god, M Ward was so tedious and from what i could gather from overheard conversations, a good proportion of people were there for him, rather than the lovely ms Case. ("Dude that was fucking amazing! Who's on next?" "Dunno, some country woman...") !

Neko Case is fine - better without The New Pornographers I'd say - but in any case I can't fault anyone who's bought my band's album and commended it
But, the gorgeous nut-case that is Chan Marshall/Cat Power steals it easily. Saw her yesterday in the Roundhouse in London. Simply breathtaking. She played The Greatest straight through from the opening track! Brilliant.

I canīt figure this out, solmonte. What band are you in, and what album was commended?

Head - I'm sorry for not making myself clear. The band, my sort of ex-band, was/is called Peru You, and the album was called "In the sea, on the sea". It's still available on a few Web-based mail-order shops if you're interested.

Apparently she heard us playing back in 2001 when both TNP/Neko and us were playing a festival in Oslo, Norway. 'Twas a great time for us - we had our own mini-stage/sales booth and played 6-7 short gigs a day for two days! Made loads of dosh that eventually financed our second album.. but that's another story altogether.

I saw Neko last night and agree about her loveliness. Nice tribute to Daniel Johnston towards the end, too.

I saw her at the Gorge in Washington for Sasquatch fest, thought she was amazing, and have been mystified ever since that I can't get any of my friends to give a shit about her music.
