That wasn't a visor. That was a banana clip, spray-painted metallic gold.

Yeah, let's resurrect the ficus for congress campaign but up it a notch to ficus for president!

Here is a little bit about the first attempt.

George Clinton - first rate. He has already fleshed out his administration in "Chocolate City". Arethra Franklin - first lady, Richard Pryor - minister for education, Stevie Wonder - minister for fine arts, but he sees Muhammed Ali as president. Oh, and he'd paint the white house black too.

No time like the present. The world demands regime change. Now.

Seems like someone wants to cut out the ficus anyway: http://www.petitiononline.com/mmoore/
And isn't having a ficus in charge just rehashing the Adventure Game?

Paglia and Chomsky.

It's President of the United States, not president of CBS.

Politicians are a cowardly, supersitious lot. That's why, in these turbulent times, only one person can save America from the mess it's in... BATMAN!

"Do you love President Batman?"
"Why, yes, sir. I do!"
"Will you die for President Batman?"
"Yes, sir! I will!"

Vote Batman in 2004!

George Clinton convinces Congress to declare war on Iraq:

"If we gonna turn Iraq out, it's time to rock out wit'cha cock out!"

I think you're right, hir, I had the order backwards. I just wanted to see Bill blowing sax for Parliament.

Qalyn: excuse me? Why are those two such lousy choices? A pragmatic, outspoken, intelligent proponent of 'Get off yer ass' equality, and a very smart honest political thinker.

Why on Earth is that such a bad pairing?

Nick, I agree that they'd make a great team, but I think they'd have more power and influence as network executives than politicians.

They're already commentators with a platform. It's time smart people stopped commenting and started doing.

"A pragmatic, outspoken, intelligent proponent of 'Get off yer ass' equality"

I was really hoping this sentence was going to end "...and Camille Paglia."

How 'bout Ayn Rand and Edward Said?

I like Camille Paglia.

Early Paglia, before she sold out.

I'm serious.

I didn't realize we were being serious, Nick, but I'll give it a shot. I do sometimes wonder what Noam Chomsky would actually do with executive power over the imperial juggernaut; I suspect the Josef Konrad formula would turn him into some mad Caligula. Camille Paglia does seem to love telling people what to do, but I have no information about her ability to govern wisely -- it's more than just talk, you know.

Hence, network TV. Massive control over cultural mores, very little control over the life & death of citizens.

I like camille paglia a lot. That doesn't mean I agree with everything she says. She actually posted a thoughtful, restained (well, for her) piece on Israel/Palestine when she was filling in at Andrew Sullivan's weblog. needless to say, it's not quite Chomsky's take on things.

Thanks t.o.d.d. Got a link for Paglia's views on Isreal/Palestine? I'm intrigued...

The Divine Ms. Camille on Israel.

Nota bene - If you choose to read some of Sullivan's blogging, do yourself a huge favor and take it in small doses. Otherwise, you're liable to explode from rage and amazement.

Interesting. 9-11 really seems to have effected some kind of major change in Paglia's take on things... or maybe it's just the inevitable shift disguised as 'moderation' that seems to afflict a lot of these former young firebrands as the get older (cf: Christopher Hitchens). But that's a topic for another thread...

Do we have to nominate US citizens? I was just thinking, in the same vein, but with the genders and politics reversed: Naomi Klein and Salman Rushdie!

Well, someone already nominated a plant. It may have been an American plant but I doubt it has proof of citizenship. Ah, fuck it- OFF TO THE DETENTION CENTER WITH FICUS!

Levar Burton my ass. MY ASS!

The only Star Trek actors capable of being president are Avery Brooks and William Shatner. Their cabinet has to be made up of Jeff Combs, Louise Fletcher, Salome Jens, William Sadler and Mark Alaimo however.

I fear DS9 in-jokes will be lost on you heathens, though.
