Such happiness should be expressed in the form of a link.

I am happy because I found a link to my website, (Here! Click Here! Shameless Self Promotion!) whilst out on the internet. It's on a really good site, and the guy is this totally amazing author.
I emailed him to say thanks, and he replied (almost instantaneously) with compliments and the news that he followed me from my previous blog because he liked the writing.
This gives me major happy.

MattShepherd: LARGELY ABSENT!
14:14 / 08.09.06
The amazing groundswell of support for artist Lea Hernandez after a tragic house fire is really boosting my spirits right now. The comic world is such a fantastic community, and the Internet is a great medium. A decade ago, if your house burnt down in the middle of the night, you wouldn't have hundreds of fans and well-wishers rallying to support you within days. Now, these things are possible and happen amazingly often.

It's worth pointing out that only a fool would use a flensing knife on an area of the body with as little subcutaneous fat as the throat

Well at least I've learnt something from this parasitical experience.

This evening, with sunlight angling through the dirty glass and some old Dylan on itunes, I feel the wary half-happiness I normally feel, like "OK I'm content now... I wonder what's going to fuck it up, and how soon". This is a real progression on the way I was feeling all last week, which was more like "this is a real low and I can't see when I'm getting out of it."

All I really need now is a cup of tea and the cat curled up in this room instead of, antisocially, somewhere else, but I really didn't think I'd feel remotely sorted again until I had surgery (followers of the wonderstarr fucked-up face saga: it is booked for next friday)... it's amazing I suppose what you can get used to.

(It gives me much happy to hear you're feeling better, Miss W, and you remain in my thoughts.)

Thank you blood! (That sounds a bit like Paranoidwriter's "Black London Vernacular" accent, but... unavoidable).

Unfortunately you only name two types of tea I don't much like, but still very decent of you. I don't know the name of the one I like. ... "Ceylon"? Normal tea anyway, the one you have with milk but that isn't Earl Grey.

I had some wine in the end and with the painkillers it made me sing most of the Evita score. The cat is here now asleep.

I am happy because I've earned my money in pounds and now I'm spending it in euros, so even though I'm unemployed I feel quite rich. As long as I don't buy anything except food.

This week I have received - my last week of English pay, my old flat deposit and £180 from selling ONE 12" single. yay.
I am also expecting some form of tax rebate.

I've seen the bottle of whisky that I'm going to buy when I do find a job, and it's going to taste goooood.

Despite probably making my bank manager write me pointed letters about how I shouldn't spend money I do not have I just got tickets for a Public Enemy gig and a Jurassic 5 gig which makes me most happy.
It more than makes up for the suckiness of working over-time both today and tomorrow (which is how I justifed spending the cash).

Just spoke to my mum, who had her tumour removed last week- they reckon they killed it all, which is, as you can imagine, something of a relief and very happy-making!
She's got to have five weeks of radiotherapy just in case, but they seem to think it should all be sorted now.
Yay!

I had a long and involved dream in which I was a superheroine last night. I really should post late on Barbelith more often. I was even called Miss Wonderstarr in the hero team. And better yet I even own the outfit I was wearing in the dream (though I don't remember the shoes).

I also owned a signed sketch by Carlos Ezquerra of... Mickey the Multifoods Dragon from CRISIS comic, circa 1988, in the dream. That's OK but not something I actually want.

Good news, indeed Stoatie.
I cannot believe that both your mum and your sister have had cancer in such a short space of time.

*shakes fist impotently at the sky*

Anyway. tra-la-la-la-la

My friend H has recovered nicely from chemotherapy and she has hair, even had a haircut (well... trim really), and is back to her old ways.
Which feels me with unadultered GLEE!

And, I got my mortgage, which in the scheme of things is ohh so little
But truth-be-told I was losing sleep thinking about it.

Cheers, guys. My sister's nearly finisher her chemo, but she's apparently gone back to work already. Which strikes me as madness, but she's a bit different from me when it comes to the work ethic thing.

Yes, absolutely: yay stoats, yay stoatie's mum. That is good news.

So, Saturday: went blackberry picking! Took a really lovely walk by a river, picked oodles and oodles of blackberries, threw sticks for a silly dog, lounged around in the sun with blackberries in my belly and dark, juice-stained fingers. Someone I know is going to make these berries into some sort of liqueur, according to Ye Olde Recipe, all I have to do is help pick them and make some suitably arty labels for the bottles, and then I’ll get some too. Which'll be nice.

Sunday: went to the beach! I haven’t been to the beach - or even seen the sea - for, well, years. And I’m kinda amazed at how happy I was to see it, too. I mean, I know that it’s only the sea. But, at the same time, I was all like wow, duuude it’s the sea!1!! - as I paddled around. And then sat on the beach and boggled at the groovy vastness of it all. Man.

This morning: really fucking happy.

Right now: gosh, the sky is actually astonishingly beautiful. Very unusual blue. There’s a storm that’s almost here, and the air is really warm and fresh. Any minute its going to throw it down.

Stoatie, this news about your mum & sister really brighted up my Monday. I really, really happy for you and your family. I've been through some of that last year myself (stomach tumor on my dad)* and I can totally get the relief feeling you must be getting now. What a buzz, huh?

Anyway, praying continues (just in case, and for thanking reasons also)

* that makes, what?, a third of what you've been through yourself?

Everything I've done this afternoon (clean flat, do work emails, watch Jimmy Cagney in White Heat, drink glass wine) I'd also be able to do with a scarred face and one working eye! [see Miserable thread for context] It's important to be positive. I doubt my cat would know any different if I was changed, or that she'd feel any different to me. Someone give me a children of courage award for this post!
