Geoffrey Chaucer has a blog.

(I've posted it in the SOAP thread in FTVT, but the whole thing is worth a read. It has pyrates inne it too).

Mistofelles, your picture, and my trip to Krakov and Prague via Berlin have convinced me that in Germany everything is made of playmobile and cakes, apart from your forests which are deep and scary. I have to say, I didn't like the toilets you have by the Autobahns, though, but I won't hold you responsible, and anyway, playmobile and cakes.

It's taken me a while but I've figured out that the opposite of betrayed is protected and the opposite of disappointment is to have your expectations exceeded.

They tell you can die of a broken heart but no one ever tells you you can be reborn from a mended one.

::cries::

(I've been thinking lately about how, at least within a het-dominated UK scene, there's such a huge vocabulary for romantic pain, disappointment, betrayal, etc, and so few ways of talking about the mechanics, the specifics, of a relationship that works. It's beautiful to see you put it into words like this.)

And miss wonderstarr: Oh. Em. Gee. ::has booklust::

The Michigan Women's Music Festival began admitting openly
trans (transgender/transsexual) women last week...

I'm sniffly about this. It means that all the wonderful positive things that people say about Michigan no longer have to taste bitter to me. It's weird - I would never have been prevented from going to the festival, I'm never going to go to it, and yet I feel like everything's expanded a bit.

I really hope this goes smoothly and that many more people get to share the joy.

Two days ago, all of a sudden my internet connection didn´t work anymore. I phoned the companies:

"Say xylophone, tswgrhrt or brachiaxürniosaurii to get further information, please hold the line, ..."

After company a told me, it should work and I should contact chimpany b, incompany b only superficially seemed to speak the same language as me.

40 minutes ago, I decided to fondle with windows one last time before going to the internet café, and voilà, I´m back!

Remember how I showed you the other day that I had enough BFI Film Classics. I didn't really think I had enough.

Was that enough, MW?

No, it's never enough.

This evening I went for a drink with my friend who has had an addiction to heroin and who has been selling the Big Issue for a while. He's been in a really bad place this last year, and couldn't communicate with anyone and was angry and upset and addicted and his eyes were dull and I love him but I couldn't help him and it made me very sad.

But this evening his eyes were glowing blue again and he's conquered the habit and he can talk again and laugh again and he's got a place at University to study chemistry as a mature student which is what he's always wanted. I'm so proud of him, so proud. And I'm really excited that he's going to University and that he's reclaimed his life.

Cheers to you, my friend.

I don't know what exactly happened on the way to work this morning. It's cool and drizzly out today, which usually puts me in a foul mood, especially since I'm on a bike and take a wooded trail most of the way to the office, meaning mud and misery. But today, just coming out of the woods, there was a bit of sun that popped through the clouds, and it's been cold enough that somebody had their wood stove burning maple nearby.

A burst of sunshine and just the right temperature and the smell of maple smoke on the cool fresh air, and bam, I was twelve years old and on my way to my grandparents' cottage at Christie Lake for a late summer visit, looking forward to seeing them and roasting marshmallows and sleeping in a bunk bed and looking for weird chunks of moss in the woods and feeding the chipmunks peanuts which they'll take from my hand if I hold very still and swimming in the lake and sleeping in the hammock.

Which I wasn't, of course, I was on my way to work. Where I am now. But it was a fantastic bit of sensory alchemy, and it's put me in a fantastic mood, the best in weeks. So thank you sun and smoke and unseasonally cold weather. I'll be riding this all day.

I met Charlie Brooker last night! Well, I say "met", more like ambushed, waylaid and annoyed. Who cares: Charlie f'ing Brooker!

Sadly, no. It's the first time in many a year I've done a full fan gush at someone though. My friends were very embarrassed but I don't care.

I can understand the full fan gush over Charlie Brooker (though that's not a good mental image).
Was he nice about it, or was he like his on-screen persona and call you a rude word?

I think he just didn't know how to react. He was nice about it, but clearly embarrassed. I'm sure the number of people who would recognise him, let alone want his picture, is pretty small. Even my friends didn't know who he was until I told them afterwards.

I´m going back to London for the weekend to have drinks with all my friends and go to a wedding party on a boat on the Thames with them all as well. I´ve not seen anyone for over 3 weeks, so I am happy.

I love Charlie Brooker. Stop me, oh-ho-ho stop me if you think that you've heard this one before, but when I first saw Nathan Barley he was EXACTLY like a guy for whom I was dumped many years ago. I told a friend this, and he pissed himself laughing for about an hour. Largely because he used to work with said guy at Computer Exchange many years ago, and also Brooker used to work there. And didn't like girlfriend-stealing guy very much. So I have managed to convince myself that the entire show was the character assassination of one of the few people in the world I'd actually, literally like to feed to a bear.

Brooker rocks.

Well, that and he described Sezer off Big Brother as "the human equivalent of a cock-shaped novelty pen", which is the best journalism I've ever read.

A couple of minutes ago, I compiled a list of my favourite bands/artists for a thread on another board. And as I wrote "I´m listening to their new album right now", after I wrote "their new album is great!" for another of these bands, I realized, they are all still alive and most are just in their fourties!

For the longest time, whenever I had a favourite artist (music, poetry, novels, paintings, etc.), they either were dead or recently deceased.

For example, a couple of years, I finally stood before a real Francis bacon painting and was in a mild fandom haze, when I heard a guy next to me say to his friend "yes, he died recently, didn´t you hear?". Oh no, I thought, not again!

Of my favourite seven groups, four recently released new albums, and only one has been disbanded two years ago. Happy happy, joy joy!

My littler cat is curled up in a tiny tortie puddle. She just prawned her whiskers and yawned hugely and now her chin is pointing at the ceiling. I've never seen anything so contented. If little z's float up off sleeping creatures, what floats up off a happy cat?

We were supposed to be in the country this weekend, staying with friends. Alas, one of them has the lurgy and we are postponed. But the Lith has been a joy all day, so busy for a rainy, windy Saturday, no squirrels and such a lot of interesting stuff going on.

Several bottles of various rosés later, we're now onto raspberry vodka and ready to punch anyone who says we are alcoholics. We're just Scottish. och aye hoots, mon

Every now and then, I cast my gaze over to the right, where Sheena The World's Best Dog is sleeping. And it's weird, cos my smiley muscles just go mental when I do that. Every now and then, I go over and wuffle her ears. And she does the most adorable "FUCK OFF I'M SLEEPING" face ever. But that's me told. Course, it's all different when she turns up with bits of my favourite action figures.

DOGGIES MAKE THE HAPPY.

They do.

I'm sure there are equations that prove this.

And if there aren't, then fuck maths. Fuck it. Fuckin numbers. Rubbish, that's what numbers are. Ears. Ears and paws and cute little noses are what it's all about.

Oh, and tails. Tails are cool, too.

And come on everyone! Xoc, don't be such a tease. Come on y'all: its time for a huge, happy, squelchy, group hug...
