But to get back onthread...

Tryphena Sparks gets my vote for 'Righteously angry post of the year (with added credit for summing up the continuing importance of feminism)' with this post:

Hello everyone. This is how Shadowsax still makes me feel:

It's the year 2006, feminism started to change society on a big scale over 100 years ago. I'm beyond pissed off that I can be insulted inadvertently (and without recognition from the person dishing out the insults) because I was born a girl. I'm not taking that here. I'm not fucking taking it here

You stop and you think about the mental pressure that's heaped on to women, you think about a girl's childhood, you think about George and Ann from Famous Five, the women's section of the Observer magazine, every year the articles on girls doing better than boys in GCSEs as if it's a failure on the boys part, not hard work on the part of the girls, constant sexualisation of the female body everywhere and TELL ME I have to put up with this shit here about those bad female lawyers who lie lie lie. Go on. Do it. Because in this society it's abnormal for a woman to have fucking FACIAL HAIR. It's ABNORMAL. Hey men, you get to grow a fucking beard but girls RIP OUT YOUR TINY LITTLE MOUSTACHES. When you got to the beach make sure you get a bikini wax and don't forget women steal children from the menfolk EVERYDAY in court.

I'm sorry were we talking about psychosis, HAVE YOU LOOKED AT WHAT SOCIETY IS EXPECTING FEMALES TO CONFORM TO? I am angry that we are still talking about someone who was so fucking nasty to HALF OF THE POPULATION (approximately).

FUCK HIM I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO GLAD TO SEE THE BACK OF SOMEONE.

xk, in the new Military SF thread, on Heinlein:

"Heinlein may read at times like 'yay ass-kicking' but if you are really paying attention he is putting forth the idea of a society where the most vulnerable achieve self sufficiency in self defense via technology on a wild frontier. Heinlein is less about military and more about the rights of naked women to do as they wish with the aid of a small laser pistol."

Shrug provides an incredibly vivid (and oddly beautiful) description of where he'd like to see Jesus appear next, over in the Always With You thread, in the Art and Fashion forum.

Maybe Jesus rising ephemerally from a toilet cistern, incandescent with suffering as three gurning clubbers volly determinedly in the small cubicle space to snort coke off a burned up toilet seat?

I have no idea who first coined this expression, but seeing it laid out thus has brought me quite the happy this morning, thank you natty ra jah

The baseless conceit that what has been referred to on other threads here as "hide-the-penis-in-the-lady" is the only "real" or meaningful form of sex.

Oh man in the supermarket
Capitalism is bad
But not entirely the fault of the teenage till assistant
At whom you shouted abuse
When he wouldn't give you 50p change from a voucher.

It's only 11 O'clock on a Sunday morning
How angry will you be by lunchtime?
And I'm not sure how it would help
Were I to 'stick it up [my] hole'.

To give context to the above: it was a follow-on from a little digression in the Who 2 thread about David Tennant skull-fucking a dead horse.

Mordant's stirring evocation of classic beguilin' dialogue between Merlin and Nimue:

"Hey."

"What?"

"You're beguiling me, aren't you?"

"Nuh uh!"

"Aww man. You're totally beguiling me."

"Am not! Honest!"

"Aww, look at this. I'm already all beguiled. Damn. Hey, are you dancing?"

"No!"

"Yeah you are. That's the Dance of Evil Triumph."

"Well, maybe a bit."

Tuna Ghost, in someone's thread about musicals:

I saw Fiddler on the Roof a couple weeks ago on television and didn't hum along or attempt to play the music on a phantom instrument or pull my hair or weep uncontrollably or paint "may God fuck Anatevka for eternity" on the walls with my blood or anything. I still don't especially care for it, but I can watch it without any negative effects.

Good going, TG! Glad to hear your recovery is proceeding apace. Keep up the good work. We're all pulling for you.

Flyboy, from the Your Watch thread.

There is a sense, isn't there, having read this thread, that Barbelith at the moment is a bit like the Deadwood camp, shortly after Bill Hickock made his exit.

Leading me to envision that Season 4 of the show will be a long-running debate about whether or not Gem Saloon operator Al Swearengen should be banned from the town for his bigotted views of Native Americans.

Season finale guest stars Tom Coates as Abe Lincoln.

From a nitpicking point of view though, Evil, I don't think either Seth Bullock (throb...) or Sol Star is a cocksucker, although they came from Montana. They are both fine chaps but, perhaps I am sensitised by being a cocksucker, they don't suck cock. Shame, because I love sucking cock. Sorry if that has an high "ick" factor for some.

Maybe Flyboy was using the word cocksucker ironically, in an Al Swearengen pastiche. Given his consistent homofriendliness, I expect he was.

Y SO ALT?
01:56 / 06.09.06
This Deadwood thing has got absurdly confused. I think I meant that I was Bullock (an absurdly lofty claim to be sure), but I was talking as Swearengen might and describing myself thus. The flawed, though, was my own gloss - Al would probably have said "aggregating".

Who was / is the Bill Hickock in this scanrio? Is it me? I don't want to be "E.B" whatsisface. I don't even want to play this game of Cowboys and Native Americans. It's too problematic and doesn't reflect who I want to be. Indeed I agree, it's all gotten absurdly confused.

You're quite right Xoc. I, however, have yet to describe either of them as such. In fact I would go further and point out that in the thread I quoted it from I have not used the term "cocksucker" at all (and I'm pretty sure this post constitutes my first use of it on the site since I joined).

The barbequote above, and subsequent depiction of what "Barbewood" might be like was not intended to be a dig at Fly. I genuinely thought the comparisson of Barbelith and Deadwood (both of which I enjoy) was amusing and Barbequote-worthy.

Yes, Evil S, you're quite right too. It was simply that the "flawed Montana cocksuckers" line followed the bit you quoted and I had puzzled over it for a couple of days. I could have made that link more clear.

I think Haus was supposed to be the Wild Bill Hickock figure, it's mentioned further down the thread where Flyboy implies he's a man that's short of a lynch mob, there's a wonderfull fetch the ropeiness to the post.

No worries Xoc.

I think I meant that I was Bullock

That was my interpretation oddly enough. A man of conviction with something of a temper (and a dashing moustache). Makes a fine sheriff but may occasionally beat certain locals to within an inch of their lives with a righteous fury.

Haus isn't Wild Bill, he's the Doc.
