David Blaine fallin' off stuff

ok, so out of morbid curiosity i never saw his shite before) i watched David Blaines Vertigo last night.
hmmm
I dont know, some of his stuff was pretty cool, but some of his other stuff made me wonder if he is jesus/the anti-christ.
Ok, so theres a kid, who is afraid of snakes, so blainey eats a snake, swallows and then tells the kid to open his backpack, the snake is in there. as the kid picks up the snake blaine is saying things like "your fear is gone" and shit. What is up with this guy?

He can re-fill AND seal an empty beer can right in front of you, fall like 60 feet into a pile of cardboard and put his hand through a glass window to return a watch he pocketed off a woman on the street.

So here is my question, should we be following this dark brooding master of illusion, or should we do a quick ritual to banish him???

I already follow Dark Lord Blain.

I think he's great, the whole image he puts forward is excellent - most of the stuff he does is just normal magic but the way he does it is so much better than the smiling cheesy assistant stuff, he plays it all mystical and thats what makes the difference..

'Normal' magic with clever editing.

David Blaine is Johnny Knoxville with a Rasputin beard and a Messiah Complex.

I would love to take credit for that description, but its from Cintra Wilson of Salon.com.

I hope your not questioning the power of Blaine Ganesh?!? The only trick I heard that used editing was the levitation trick - you can find out how to do that one on the net, my friend can do it pretty well, great pub trick

So how DO you do the levitation trick at a pub without the benefit of TV cameras and editing, pray tell? You say it's on the Net -- how can I find a 'how to' on this neato trick?

yeah, i don't buy that editing crap. you can call him a con man, but he's good enough to pull it off without electronics. he's always around in nyc and when he does this shit to your face it's the end of the story.

that buried alive thing had nothing to do with editing. it was an incredible physical ordeal that most people couldn't live through. insofar as magic is a technology of will, he's got it for real.

The levitation is the Balducci levitation - you balance on the tip of one toe, and from a particular angle it appears that you are floating a few inches above the ground.

The reactions to this were then interspersed with doctored footage of Blaine levitating a foot in the air.

And that, my friends, is magic.

Exactly what he said....

A lot of Blaine's tricks (like the business with the snake) are down to a very sophisticated understanding of suggestion. I'd recommend watching this guy to anyone interested in magick, or in the paranormal side of things, because watching him shows us how it is possible for us all to be conned by the unscrupulous.

yes yes yes
BUT IS HE EVIL????

Don't think he's the second coming; sure his tricks are set-ups, suggestion or whatever.

But he entertains me, so hell, watcha gonna do?

My favourite Blaine moment isn't a trick though; it's his GMTV interview with Eamonn Holmes, where he said NOTHING for about 5 minutes. Class entertainment, for Holmes' embarassment alone...

He's currently standing on top of a sixty foot pole in New York (?) with nothing to hold on to. Thing is, he's intending to do it for forty-eight hours.

David Blaine go SPLAT!

Hes bloody good...what about darren brown, some of his are quite good...like the orson welles picture, that was impressive....not quite as entertaining or elaborate as david blane, but his psychological brand of magic is great

I think of him as kind of a "grunge" version of Sigfried and Roy, and his "Frozen in a block of ice" trick was almost painfully easy to figure out. I didn't watch his new special since it was on the same time as South Park...and I've seen his tricks before in a different arena.

So I'm the only one who thinks that Blaine's really just a bit shit? AS in deeply, intensely boring?

Uri Geller recently claimed that "David's got amazing powers; truly, you haven't seen half of what he's capable of," or something along those lines.

I. Can't. Wait.

Hopefully this new show on Blaines will be shown in the UK?

stabb I think there was a thread about Darren Brown awhile back - I think I love him he does what Uri Gellar does without playing the whole spooky powers act.

No, E Randy; I too live for the day Blaine succeeds in producing an interesting utterance from out of his mouth without the aid of camera trickery.
