Yeah, I know it's no biggie for you, but Mogwai is about to play in Rio on the 18th! Yay! I'm all excited to watch it - it's really rare that an alternative band gets to gig around our salty shores, you can undertand me, can't you?
So yeah! an all that, If you need me, I'll be right here, warming up!

Very envious. Have you seen them before? They're dangerously loud and rather damn fine. Enjoy.

Never seen 'em before. It's a chance in a thousand. If I miss this one, who knows when I'll ever get the chance again? Thanks

I guess I'm just not getting this band.

They bore me.

Is there something I'm missing here?

I can't convince you to like them, of course, but they make a lot more sense after you've seen them live. Kinda like, "Oh.... they're a punk band. I'd always suspected..." Not that I didn't like the records before that. Listening to them LOUD helps a great deal.

They're fabulous. Very noisy. Enjoy!

Must admit that this lot are lost on me as well...they're stuff just seems to kinda drone, and doesn;t have much variety- obviously missing the point. S'just that their fanbase seems to dovetail with those into the same kinda stuff as me(MBV,Godspeed etc), so I keep buying CDs in earnest expectation which end up being used as door-stops or whatever

Mogwai have a few great songs, but are mostly pretty dull. They're certainly one of the best "dull depressing instrumental guitar rock" bands out there, but the idea of the genre is really off-putting to me to begin with.

LOL. There are so many dull guitar bands in so many different genres. I'd be hard pressed to work out the conventions that are true of all of them (besides the guitar thing).

Kind of like Godspeed, I assume?

But Godspeed is actually good to listen to. I like Godspeed. There's just something about them that Mogwai doesn't have. Everything is flowing like a unicorn in 3D when I listen to Godspeed. When I listen to Mogwai dead turtles are groaning about their trivial life issues.

Yep, it's official: Mogwai are the Pepsi Chart version of Godspeed...! They are the Van Halen compared to Godspeed's Led Zep.

A cue for a rousing game of 'What if the 00s were the 80s?'

Eminem= Adamski
Travis= late Simple Minds
Destiny's Child= the Pointer Sisters
Badly Drawn Boy= Marillion

etc etc

I'm just glad I can watch them, even if they are the Pepsi. You know how hard it is to get sodas down here?

Destiny's Child have a lot more to do with Michael Jackson and Prince than they do with the Pointer Sisters. Show a little respect for Beyonce, eh? She deserves it.

That's a little unfair I feel .. I see them as being on about the same plateau of fucking-long-way-from-pepsi-chart greatness. And anyway, aside from the fact that they're both long-wiinded, instrumental and go quiet/loud, it's not like they have a massive amount in common .. same ballpark maybe, but it's not like Mogwai are a Godspeed ripoff or anything (they're obviously a Slint ripoff ).

Trying to articulate my love of Mogwai in words is going to prove rather difficult, so, um, um, you're all wrong ok? They're great. Put on 'Young Team' at top volume and see how long it is before your legs turn into liquid..

Dear God man? Are you listening to the same band I am? GSYBE are with out a doubt the second most tedious band on the planet! God only Sigur Ros are more boring.
When you go to see Mogwai you see a god damn rock show, the band come on and rock out in a huge way. They have fun, put a good show and have some of the best quite bit/loud bits in the world.

As opposed to musuos sitting on stage stroking their goaties looking bored because it's what you do when your ART..

For the record, I love Mogwai to bits (just in case anyone thought I was dissing them). I also love Van Halen. I was also taking the piss.

the cure, hyde park - huh? more info please... I looked it up, but could find nowt. I do so love the cure, live...

For the record, I like what I have heard of Mogwai. Find them very relaxing in a depressive, meditative kind of way...night time music. But I have only heard the one album, so this is not an informed opinion.

Well, I survived "Like Herod". They focused on the loud end of their musical spectrum. My ears still ring, and I regret they didn't have two dates here, only in Sao Paulo. VERY good. AND they played Helicon 1. I'm a very happy NinJade today, I must say

That is brilliant.

So heavy on the indie in-jokes there's probably only several thousand people in the world who'd fully understand it, but brilliant all the same.

I must get one.
