All right I can barely contain myself as I am going to see JSBX tomorrow night. This is will be the second time I've seen them, the last time six years ago at the 40 Watt in Athens.

My goals for this show are threefold:

1. To shake my ass.

2. Actually buy a t-shirt at a show I attend, something that never happens.

3. Oh, and have my picture taken with the Man Hisself. Preferably showing me playfully molesting him in some fashion, but whatever.

Plastic Fang is pretty good, but as long as he plays "Blues X Man", we're all good.

Anyone else all about Mr. Spencer?

Yeah, like no one's ever tried that before. Ain't you heard "Eyeballin'"?

Haven't heard the album yet and probably won't (still think "Orange" and all the subsequent albums really pale to it). BUT they did put on one of the best shows I've ever seen in my life and are a great live band. This time around, they're touring w/ Calvin Johnson's Dub Narcotic Sound System. Also, from what I can tell, Jon's actually a pretty shy guy. A couple of years back, I saw Boss Hog and he hung around and signed everyone's stuff. Of course, the cynic in me wants to believe it's because the place didn't have a green room, much less a shower (you should've seen Christina afterwards, she looked like she was dipped in sweat). Oh yeah, Judah Bauer's dad came down from Appleton to see that show. How cool is that, this 70 yr. old guy travelling 2 1/2 hrs. to see his son's girlfriend's side band?

JSBX are pretty good for a novelty band, and are pretty hit and miss on stage and in the studio, I think. I've seen JSBX twice, and I think they just get really tedious after a while if yr not 100% into the schtick.

If Dub Narcotic is there, you can expect them to blow them off the stage.

Listen, Margin Walker, I can dream. I saw Boss Hog two summers ago and it was fantastic. I still have wet dreams about Cristina Martinez.

As for the "schtick," I'm all about it. If it gets me moving and having a good time, I don't give a good goddamn.

hey flux.
calling the blues explosion a novelty act is being a little harsh.
sure they have a schtick, but don't most bands?
just because the blues explosion's is stoopidly obvious, i don't think it makes them novelty.

i mean. the smurfs doing diana ross or whatever. now that's novelty.

i saw jsbx on jools last night and i thought they were so fucking good. they are wonderful life. i like it how jon always grabs his willy when he gets excited in a total non micheal jackson way, and the way he shakes those hips. and he can play guitar while running about and on teevee last night he was sucking the microphone! so exciting.
my flatmate said jools holland looks like richard the third. nevertheless, seeing him trying to keep up with the blues explosion was funny as fuck. yup. they rule.

Jon wants to be Kim Salmon so bad. That's his schtick. Seriously.

I'm going to see JSBX in a couple of weeks, I've never seen them before, but I'm pumped about it; I've never heard anything bad about him live (except for Flux's post, but his opinion on music really means fuck all to me). I'm anticipating this show more than Manowar, and I am giving up seeing the Rev. Horton Heat w/ Nashville Pussy for this (I've seen both bands before anyways).

Just got back in from seeing JSBX about thirty minutes ago.

To say the least, I am exhausted.

It was such a fucking good show. You felt the funk and the rock and the vibe and everyone got into it. The band gave it their all; it was no less than a 110%. I can't remember the last time I felt so good dancing and just feeling the music without anything like alcohol, or whatever. There was no need to drink. You just had to MOVE.

I met Cristina, I met Jon and I did indeed have my picture taken with him. Will post it. Promise.

I should probably go to sleep as I am so tired but I am so wired. Go figure.

P.S. Cop Killer, JSBX seems to arouse me, so don't be surprised if you get rubbed against vigorously at one of his shows. Apparently, I'm not the only one.

Anyone who still is going to see the Blues Ex in the next few weeks, all I can say is You lucky, lucky bastards!
I've see them twice, first time, they seemed kinda tired but it was still good.
The second time they rocked liked bastards, the noise, the ROCK n' ROLL!, the silver PVC suit jon was wearing! Therimins! It was one of the best shows I've ever seen. God they even got a dublin crowd doing call/response and everyone over here is far too cool for that.
Hopefully they're playing over here soon.
sigh.

Jon Spencer arouses me too, so I won't really mind getting rubbed against vigorously all to much, if at all.

Oh, the call and response thing rocked.

I was so happy they played a lot of the songs I was hoping they were. If his kid hadn't been asleep, Cristina was going to introduce him to me. But he was, so oh well.

They're playing tonight in New Orleans, and then two Texas dates tomorrow before they make their way home up to New York City.

I gotta tell ya, I have never seen a venue so packed. Spike's going to be up in NYC in a couple of weeks, and I am tempted to fly up there so I can be with him and see Jon Spencer again.

Rothkoid- "Jon wants to be Kim Salmon so bad. That's his schtick. Seriously."

Come on, if Jon Spencer really wanted to be Kim Salmon, then he'd be playing bland, boring, middle-of-the-road, adult-oriented rock that no-one under the age of 30 listens to, and trading solely on the fact that he used to be in a band that people used to give a fuck about.

I think the Blood Sucking Freaks said it best when they said "Kill Kim Salmon".

I went a couple nights ago, and it was fucking awesome, man oh man, is Jon Spencer a shoman or what? The only thing that caught me off guard is that about half the crowd looked like they should be at a Dave Matthews concert and I was expecting way more aging hipsters and guys with big sideburns, not kakhis and stiped, button down, short sleeve shirts. I wouldn't have minded this, but they all did that stupid-white-guy-at-a-blues-show dance, what with their hands up in the air and their complete lack of rhythem; I wanted to tap them on the shoulder to inform them that this wasn't actually blues, and that if they hit me in the face with their fucking elbows one more time there was going to be blood spilled in Chicago. But yeah, outside of them, the show was everything Kali hyped it up to be.

Count Adam: Sin Factory, not whatever that shitbox stuff he's spruiking now is.

Speaking of Spencer and Schtick, I kinda liked this:

The thing is, anyone who seriously expected Plastic Fang to be anything other than a standard JSBX record is a fucking halfwit. That's the point, dumbass. This is what the guy does (Acme aside). He's not going to change his tune because it's suddenly trendy. While all those other bands are doing NME cover shoots and being argued about on high-minded weblogs, Spencer is blowing (comparatively) big bucks in the studio, writing songs about chicks and cars and monsters and rocking and fucking.
