I'm trying to have two minutes' silence for the nation's favourite grandmother.

"Honestly, officer, I meant no disrespect- quite the opposite in fact. I'm wearing my trousers at half-mast."

Why didn't MY favourite grandmother get two minutes' silence? (Although she was mostly deaf, anyway, so I doubt she'd have minded had she still been alive.)

I hate all that, they just did it in the office. People pretending that they care, well I think some of them actually do. They've taken out the TV to show the funeral, have you seen the queues? Mothers dragging their kids along "she really wanted to see the coffin"....

Well it was nearly silence here, someone forgot and was talking in his loud Wolverhampton accent about him trying to wind surf but he kept falling into the sea apparently...

Is it true she's being buried in a solid gold coffin with the Koh-I-Noor diamond placed respectfully in her mouth, as one would insert an apple into a pig's maw?

Nobody listened to me. I tried to tell 'em. "Cut her head off, stuff the mouth with garlic and bury her at a crossroads", I said. I said it here, I said it at work, I even said it very loudly while in public several times, but would they listen?
Would they fuck.
I give up. LET her army of the undead march. We'll see who's laughing THEN!

Most of the people I work with aren't British so they were all being respectful and stuff, sensitive to culture an that...they kinda looked a bit confused when the British contingent didn't give a toss...lots of carrying on with work, talking loudly, etc....

Just been into Bristol town centre and half the shops are shut for the morning "out of respect to the queen mother". More like shut "so we can have a half day off work." Why couldn't my office have shut so I could've had a lie in? (I mean, pay my respects in a horizontal position.)

Imagine my horror, this morning when dealing with my gentlemans cramp as so i wouldnt have to do a handstand to pee, i realised i was knocking one off while the whole nation was being silent, so i used the black sock and had a tear in my eye when finished it seemed like the right thing to do.

I tell you what, it blew my theory about her being the animatronic creation of Jim Henson out of the water. Unless they put in crap batteries.
Maybe we could use cgi. Virtual royalty - it'd be a bit like Sweden.

How did you feel about Diana, Suds? I spent a month or so getting abuse every time I tried to interview someone (you're a journalist? you scum!) and as for going out with a camera bag... I mean, it came as a bit of a surprise, but I wasn't about to go and place flowers at the tree she planted in the city centre (as did one of the people who gave me a right old gobful in a pub). In the end, I just got defensive and started telling people to shut the fuck up.

Eating my lunch today, trying to find something not Queen Mother related on the wireless, I reflected that I'd really like to own a house that was on the route of the funeral procession, so that I could lean out of the upstairs window and shout things like "GET OFF MY GARDEN YOU FLAGWAVING FUCKS!" and "FUCKING TOADYING PATRIOT WANKERS!" and throw things at them and piss on their heads and so forth until I got arrested or lynched.

I got told off for breaking my silence (during which I thought about all the dead people in my family instead) with the words "Gin-pickled" "Nazi-appeasing" and "Old Crone."

Well bloody hell. I was silent, wasn't I?

Oh, and Rizla: I doff my cap to any man who still calls the radio the 'wireless.'

I'll bet the only time you listen to John Peel really is when he's doing Home Truths on Radio 4...

I seem to have become the office satan since advising my co-workers that a majority of the British didn't really care too much about the death of an old granny and that if we did we would be incredibly busy indeed. They were even more mollified to hear my comments that the observation of silence was a small price to pay for an impromptu break.

I found this a few weeks ago when looking for the same thing

I saw 5 mins of the funeral this morning before leaving for work. As the hearse was driving down Whitehall, people kept clapping... were they supposed to be doing this?

My excitement on hearing the drone of the bomber was crushed when I realised they weren't going to re-enact the blitz by doing a run on Buckingham Palace....
