Another hint - use " marks and never ' marks in your HTML. Tom mentioned a while ago that it can cause odd fuckups in the coding for the rest of the page.

Just more testing because i have a mac and when I control click (like a right click on a PC I don't get the properties option to find the correct location for the image. So this is a test to see if maybe the way I've found the location works.

You're mucking up the brackets and inverted commas. Use your 22:57 post as the example and add an opening bracket directly before the img and one set of inverted commas between the .jpg and the closing bracket.

In order for you link to an image, it needs to be on a file server somewhere...that's what people are linking to when they type in all that www.whatever.com/image.jpg stuff. Your computer, while it has a link to the internet, isn't a server.

To show us some of your own pics, you need to find an image hosting site (there's some mentioned in this thread, as well as the conversation) and upload your pictures there. Then you can use html to show us your Ansel Adams-like efforts.

If you're accessing the internet from home, then you can check to see if your ISP provides you with web-space on their server. That would be the most secure and permanent option.

VillagePhotos are now the same as Geocities, in that they don't allow you to view an image anywhere other than on the original page, so don't bother trying them. I've also had a problem using ListTailor recently, so don't be surprised if you can't see something you've uploaded there either.

My ISP provides me with a 50Mb 'website' that I've never made any kind of use of. Is there a piece-of-piss way to use it to host images and the like, for linking purposes, without recourse to any fancy website-building applications?

You don't need a website to show off pictures. All you need to do is upload your images, documents, etc to the space allocated to you by your ISP. To do this you need an FTP programme (I use WS-FTP...free and simple) as well as the login details of your webspace. These are usually the web address you've been assigned, your username and password. With most ISP's this tends to be the user ID and password you sign on with. Check with your ISP's technical supprt staff.

Example (using fictional companies and addresses):
I have an account with NeverUpOnline. My username is Talk2345, my password is YeeHing. The web address assigned to me by NeverUpOnline is www.neveruponline.com/talk2345/. So when I want to post something for all the Barbeloids to see, I enter these details into WS-FTP, connect and upload to this directory. Then I follow the posting steps outlined in the FAQ.

Well, technically you do have a website if you've got pictures online on a web server like that. But yeah, that's the easiest way to do it if you're not bothered about them staying there permanently - never treat ISP webspace as being permanent, like ISP email addresses.

There is a way to get round remote linking from Geocities, incidentally, or at least, so someone told me. Rename the file with a non-image extension (.txt for example) and it doesn't stop remote linking. For example:

<img src="http://www.geocities.com/fr1dgemagnet/bagpuss.txt">



should work - if anyone sees a red X, let me know...

Just to point out that if you want to test out your image-posting-fu, you can do so by previewing a post without actually sticking it up on the board.

That can be deceptive though. If the image is cached because you've viewed it from some other source, you will see it, but other people won't necessarily.
