Why has no one told me about them before?! Just heard Speedball (from the Tomb Raider soundtrack) whilst in HMV, f*cking fantastic stuff. Notice they have a few albums out, anyone care to guide me through them?

I'm opening a timeshare in Stankonia. Johnny Alpha vacations there, too, I think.

Yes - Stankonia. It's greee-aat as Tony the Tiger might say.

(Well actually, I reckon parts of it are slightly ropey, but they're more than made up for by the 75% which is absolutely MEGA).

All of their albums are pretty good, in their own way. None of their other records sound much like Stankonia, though, so if you're looking for more of the same I'd go and buy the Missy Elliot album instead (which is equally fantabulous).

I'm curious as to what people here's favorite song on Stankonia is...

Me, I can't get enough of "I'll Call Before I Come". Songs don't get much better than that, I reckon.

Now, see, I didn't think much of that one..

I prefer 'Xplosion' (minus the bit with that bloke from Cypress Hill), 'Spaghetti Junction' and my overall favourite's got to be 'B.O.B' which must rank as one of the most, well, undeniably "briiillliiiaaannt" pieces of music ever made.

Or, and 'So Fresh, So Clean' too.

Sometimes I just want the outro "Power music electric revival" part of "B.O.B." to last forever. That song is a true piece of genius, agreed, but that's the best part for me.

I really adore "Gasoline Dreams" and "Humble Mumble" too.

and you can't go wrong with "We Luv Deez Hoez!"

My copy of this album disappeared several months ago. It was replaced last nite. Erm, I lurve the rocker/raver stuff - probably "?", BOB, Gasoline Dreams, etc.

Erm, yes this is good.

The whole album is great. I fucking love the intro where that computer voice spells out 'Outkast', and my girlfriend is totally into 'We Luv Deez Hoez!', which I think is just hilarious.

Well, how could you not like that crazy maniacal laugh before they sing the title line?

Hey, it's a feminist anthem. Kinda.

Mmmm. It's all good. Hard to pick favourites, although there's no arguing with the genius of 'B.O.B.' (I love the bit where it goes all electro "record number four but we on a roll, hold up, slow up, stop, control like Janet..."). 'So Fresh, So Clean' ("the boy next door's a freak"), 'I'll Call Before I Come', 'Spaghetti Junction', all good...

But what about 'Red Velvet'? 'Gangsta Shit'? 'Ms Jackson'? Oh, so many good songs...

"Outkast with a K, yeah them niggas are hard
Harder than a nigga tryin to impress God
We'll blow your whole deck, fuck pullin a card
And still take my guitar and take a walk in the park..."

"You're so Anne Frank" has got to be one of the best lines in recent memory.

So basically .. um .. Barbelith opinion holds that every song is the best one.

Cool.

Pretty much yeah. I was bunging "Humble Mumble" on a mix cd earlier this week.

Pretty good stuff, tho' bear in mind I've bought like three rap albums in a decade.

Good album. Have to admit, I haven't really gone back to it much. BOB is definitely my favourite.

They're from Atlanta, so "Spaghetti Junction" is a nod to one of our more infamous traffic sites.

I should disclose I don't actually have the album. Maybe I should get it.

Stankonia renewed my faith in hip-hop.

B.O.B. was my first favorite off the album, but nowadays it's all about "Stanklove", the closing track.

'course there's always Pam & Cookie...

I bought a bag of old tapes from a bum once for a dollar, and in there (among a pretty impressive tape collection) was the maxi-single for "Elevators" which I think was from an older album. Best line:

an' if you don't move yo' feet/ then I don't get to eat

There was also some very smoky remixes on there.
