You left out "Tusk"! Worthy of inclusion, if only for the video.

Sigh.

But I don't really like 'Tusk'.

Well, I like bits of it, but then it sort've gets a bit shit.

There's no songs or music anyone should ever be embarrassed about. EVER!!

Here's some crap songs I love:

"Be My Lover" - La Bouche
"Steal My Sunshine" - Len
Practically the entire George Michael catalogue - I'm out and proud with my George love, and I don't care who knows it! But in particular, "Freedom 90."
"The Thong Song"
"Ride Wit' Me"

etc, etc, etc. There's PLENTY more I could add. I've always prided myself on having the sort of record collection in which there's always at least something that horrifies the browser...

Woah!! I have an extensive Erasure back catalogue, too!!

"Oh l'amour...
broke my heart, now I'm aching for you..
Oh l'amour..
What's a boy in love supposed to do?"

*cue synth badassness!!*

Michael Jackson's early work (c'mon man, 'Thriller' is a classic!)

I don't know how anyone could ever claim that it was embarrassing to like Michael Jackson or that 'Thriller' wasn't a classic. 'Thriller' was the first album I ever bought. I listen to it still. Quite a lot, actually. And Mike Oldfield.... 'Five Miles Out'. Forget Tubular Bells, it was crap. Five Miles Out rocks. And I still love Pat Benatar.

(You know what I love about this thread? It's got that competitive edge: 'No, like, my music taste is worse than yours! I listen to far worse songs than you could ever dream of, you ordinary hipsterboy!'
'Well, you never bought any Cream, did you?'
'Yeah, but I had the full set of Warrant albums, all two of them? And a gold edition of "Cherry Pie".)

Taste schmaste.

It's kind of sad, isn't it?

And now I'd like to outdo Ganesh on Erasure lyrics but I'm blanking - DAMN!!!

'Oh what a pooor soo-oouuul...'

I don't think Erasure are crap at all - but they do seem to attract the greatest number of horrified gasps when people look through my CD collection for the first time.

I get the same reaction from people when they find the Kenickie albums on my shelves. I'm not embarrassed about liking them and have absolutely no idea why I should be.

Kenickie rule(d) (well, At The Club does, anyway).

Saveloy has told me to own up to having B.A. ROBERTSON's INITIAL SUCCESS album. Not that I feel like I should be that embarrased about having it. Not sure if anyone remembers B.A ROBERTSON actually let alone BANG BANG, KNOCKED IT OFF and KOOL IN THE KAFTAN. What I do know is that if BELLE AND SEBASTIAN or THE DIVINE COMEDY released it today it would be classed as a masterpiece. I kid you not!

Soon we'll all be hippy
yippy-trippy
no-one needs a wardrobe
when you're in the buff
grow your hair long
write some really long songs
hey maan
it's looking rough!

see what I mean...
A...W...E...S...O...M...E!!!

I get the most grief for owning "Ladies & Gentleman: The Best of George Michael." But I still love it.

As far as Erasure goes, they were a perfect non-threating boy band to love when I was 14 or so, and I always have a nice time when I drag out "The Innocents" or the "The 3-Ring Circus." I have a soft spot for a catchy pop ballad.
And on that note:

"Angel made of heaven
Tell me what is your LOVE
Gimme some of that
ACTION REACTION!"

You da man! Even "Orabidoo" is pretty keen once you get past the crap vocoder bit.

Agree that Tubular Bells is overrated, yes,
(ten million hippies can be wrong!) but the next two, Hergest Ridge and Ommadawn are also pretty damned good, as is Amarok.

I'm not even slightly worried about the fact that I think that "She's So Unusual" by Cyndi Lauper is one of the Greatest Albums of All Time, or the fact that I like Aqua in a non-ironic fashion and actually bought one of their t-shirts (it's quite a snappy number, but about 2 sizes too small), but...

I have, in the past, described bands as being "worryingly ELO-like" and have been pretty much horrified by ANY 70's rock that doesn't come from the punk/new-wave/power pop school of things.

and guess who I can not stop listening to at the moment?

Fucking Electric Fucking Light Fucking Orchestra.

Fuck.
