How's the board been?

Ok - we've moved over to the (much) more expensive package, and HOPEFULLY this will have some effect on the time out's, collapses and server errors that we've had.

So tell me - has the board been any more stable in the last couple of days (literally two days)?

Kit-Cat Club

I haven't noticed a single glitch, Tom.

Lothar Tuppan
15:12 / 07.12.01
Me neither.

Haven't even gotten one of those 'server configuration error' that used to periodically happen when clicking a link.

Are there any particular areas you would like tested by the masses?

Not really - but when an error crops up from now on, can you remember to come here and post about it, so I can see how effective the move has been? Thanks!

I can't seem to get searches of the board (where you click on search and then enter a word to find) to work.

I just keep getting error messages...

Search function works fine for me.

When trying to delete one of my posts I get the message "Only forum leaders may delete posts."

Is this a new policy, or just switch that has yet to be flipped?

Yeah, I wanted to delete a post and got the 'only forum' message, in the end I couldn't delete, so I had to edit

I have to confess that I've turned on the limitation on deleting posts. Seems to me that you can empty out any posts that you would rather weren't there, but that you're doing other people a disservice by deleting what might consist of hours of work of thought and writing by deleting their responses without their consent...[/LIST]

Oh just in case anyone is unclear about what I'm talking about - if the first post in a thread is deleted, then the whole thread is deleted. Giving people the ability to delete a whole thread simply because they made the first comment seems to me to be excessive power...

...and can lead to embarassing mistakes if a poster isn't aware that deleting that one post will kill the thread, which might be misinterpreted. I'm all for it- you can always delete the text of the offending post and/or change the subject line, so it's not really a hardship.

Just got an internal server error...

I've been getting a couple of Internal Server Errors today - though this could be due to the amount of traffic the marriage threads are pulling in, I'd imagine.

I think t that there will still be server errors. After all, the time outs that pair.com inflict are still in operation. Hopefully, however, we're not in so much competition with other people's sites...

I've had a surprising number of 'internal server error' messages today, too. About 6, though I have been here more than usual - but 4 of them were in fairly quick succession... sorry if it is just par for the course, just thought I should mention it...

Oh... I have also been having problems (since last night) with the bottoms of certain pages refusing to load properly... but that might just be me.

I get that, but I can always get it to reload by going into a thread and coming back out. Not really a problem.

Got my first "member not recognised"....in the "Heterosexuality should be abolished" thread.

yup i'm having problems with that thread, it keeps saying that there are 5 pages and then nothing loads on the 5th, go back to the 4th page and the 5th is no longer there...got a no member message too, but that seems to happen if someone changes there name on a thread?

Idea Tom: If threads running to 8+ pages is a prob, why not have the thread automaticly close after the final post in page 8, post a last message telling that it will be continued in a new thread (say THREAD NAME (pt 2) and have a new thread create itself?

Idea Knowledge: why don't you stop posting pictures of genitalia in unrelated discussions in the Comics forum?

And then preferably just fuck off.

Wooo! The space-time continuum's gone flaccid in the 'Heterosexuality should be banned' thread. Posted a reply to Bill's post on page 5 (page 6, for some reason, gives me a blank screen) only for it to end up after Medea Zero's, on page 3.

Is there any way that you can turn the 'delete post' option back on for posts within a thread, but not the first post of a thread?

Because some topics are already host to a couple of "Gahh! Can't delete!"s, and it's pretty annoying not being able to get rid of your own double posts.

Tom Coates
18:11 / 14.12.01
That option doesn't exist. But you can edit down your current posts to nothing of course...

E. Randy Dupre
18:13 / 14.12.01
Yeah, I know. It just makes the threads look a bit messy. No big.

Ganesh
18:57 / 14.12.01
Getting an 'Internal Server Error' every other time I try to post to a thread. Then, when I do the backspace and repost, it sometimes duplicates - which, when I can't delete one of my posts, is annoying.

Tom Coates
13:40 / 15.12.01
Well you have your options...

1) Risk losing thread
2) Edit down duplicated posts to nothing
3) Get a moderator to delete offending duplicate posts...

There are blank screens for the last few pages of the fictionsuit thread in the Magick.

Oh... wait. Rex just fixed it with his posting mojo.

Never mind.

I'm having trouble accessing the last page of the Cthulhu Mythos thread over in Books. The last post I can get is my own on the 6th, but there's apparently more. I'll try clearing my history and all that, but has anyone else had troubles like this?

Zoom.

Nope, no good. Any suggestions on why I can't access this thread properly?
