It's a Star Wars rip off. All I remember of it is a guy all in black named Acton, who looked a little like a younger Colin Baker, and who (yes, yes, YES!) had a big glowing energy sword thing (now WHAT do you call them?), and who died at the end. I seem to remember, at least partly, he died through existential angst. Though I was but small when I saw it, and am probably just interpolating Return Of The Jedi and some shitey-arse Dr. Who episode...

So this one had Chow Yun Fat in it and he's a cop. At the end of the film he climbs out of a burning house by climbing through some thatch after saving the life of his rival for the lady he loves.

Flyboy: As Ray says, that's the 50s version of War of the Worlds. I'll just add that their praying doesn't actually make the things crash - which would be cool! - but they just happen to crash while the prayings being done. The aliens, you see, have succumbed to God's tiniest creatures - dogs. No, it's germs.
