Is it my imagination, or is there a fad for massive, bandwidth-eating random picture topics in the Conversation at the moment? What's with that?

There's a serious point to the 'Us' and 'Them' threads.

Those pics don't eat up Barbelith bandwidth, do they? don't they live on different servers and eat up the bandwidth of those sites?

correct, the way they are linked SHOULD put most of the bandwidth on the original hosts, who will be wondering why they are getting so many hits from here...

I wouldn't know. They take so long to download that I tend to give up after a few minutes and do something else.

Ahhh.

The true cause of your grousing is revealed:

Connection envy.

Y'all need some fatter pipes, boy. Hmmmm... DSL's [not widely available/prohibitively expensive] in the UK, ennit? What about cable modem?

No... Nick in his totality, in all his aspects and all his multifarious glory, needs the fat pipe. In all its multifarious et cetera.

I stand by my statement.

Are we all absolutely certain about the pictures not eating up bandwidth etc? Having posted a ton of the things I'd hate to think I was causing badness.

Can I be permitted to point out that, if we do indeed "need the fat pipe", then Whiskey is going to insist on watching us get it...

Then giggle childishly.

Ahem.

Sorry.

They don't eat up bandwidth. All of the conversation ABOUT them eating up bandwidth DOES eat up bandwidth.
