Not my question. I remember a long long time ago there was this comic called 'Obnoxio vs. the X-men' or something. Wondering if anyone remembers it. Not sure about the Ralph Macchio question...

Obnoxio was a clown, right? it seems to ring a vague bell in the back of my mind. i think he had a green suit, but that's probably not much help.

I think that Obnoxio the cigar-smoking clown was a character created in the late 1970s by… was it Paul Kupperberg ? There was indeed an Obnoxio vs X-Men special, which featured the X-Men looking on in horror as the clown held a dead-looking Kitty Pryde, in costume, in his arms, and asked ‘What’s yellow and black and don’t breathe no more ?’ (The answer, hidden elsewhere on the cover, was ‘a school bus’, I think).

I think that I’ve seen the character elsewhere – possibly in National Lampoon or Spy magazine, though he may have been used in house ads… (I know that Marvel UK used Batroc the Leaper in this way in the 1980s, re-doing speech balloons on strips to make him boast about ‘breaking weend een leefts’).

Edit PS - And no, the Macchios aren't one and the same. I think this was established in a 'Bullpen Bulletins' column written during the Shooter era.

Obnoxio the Clown was the resident "anchor character" in Marvel's Crazy magazine, which was a Mad imitator in the 70s/80s. He was indeed a cigar chomping obnoxious clown, and was Marvel's answer to Alfred E Neumann. The X-Men special was an ill-fated attempt to marry the two concepts.

Ralph Macchio the artist was about 120 when The Karate Kid came out. They are not the same person. However, I was surprised to discover recently that Ralph Macchio the actor is about 40 now. I thought he was still about 15.

Every year or so, Marvel would have to publicly point out that Ralph Macchio (Marvel editor) and Ralph Macchio (Karate Kid) were not one and the same.

There's a tiny piece here on Obnoxio, right at the very bottom. Looks like he was the mascot for Crazy magazine. No wonder it didn't last. The schoolbus joke makes it all worth it, though.

Also of note, on the same page, right above the Obnoxio piece, there is a picture of an airplane. It's a fairly infamous panel, as it shows just how disgruntled the artists at Atlas were in those days. Read the letters on the plane's wing.

here's one, a bit vague: who knows anything about the Junior Carrot Patrol? An offshoot of Flaming Carrot comics, about three kids who read Flaming carrot and do.... stuff. I found one issue in a bargain bin a couple of years back, by Rick Geary, i think. I'm also fairly sure that he was not the regular creator. It's a great comic, delightful whimsy and crackpot logic. I'd love to know if it's possible to get any more. long shot....... maybe some london dwelling barbeloid has seen a copy in a back ish section.....?

Seems to me there were only a couple of issues of JCP - one of Bob Burden's many touted Flaming Carrot spin offs that never really went anywhere, Mystery Men being the other obvious big one. The guy's got a loyal following, but nowhere near enough market cout to support several books. Pretty sure Geary drew all JCP issues, but I'm not definite on that.

Seems like he's done some Poe adaptations and a Jack the Ripper book, both mid-90's. Can't come up with titles or publisher for the life of me, though.

The ripper book may have been published by Tundra...

Anyone else remember this? I picked up a few issues back in the early 80's and enjoyed them. Had a little thing for Erin Bia O'Rourke-Singh and thought that Morphea was a pretty cool character. Did anyone ever play the videogame?
