While shoving politely through a crowd on Sunday night at All Tomorrow's Parties I looked to my right and did one hell of a double-take. STOAT! Never met him before, but you couldn't miss him. No wonder even the TSG recognise him. He was waiting for MBV with ermm.. Boboss? (sorry, was a bit deaf and pissed and embarrassed to ask twice). Put the cap on an excellent weekend by telling me about a film I think he must have imagined with singing vaginas in it. Anyway, was just wondering if anyone has recently seen anyone else. Y'know. Just recalling what it used to be like to bump into people you know well and have never met.

Not recently, but I did have a very similar run in with The Stoat at Glastonbury two years ago. Was theorising with Proisias on the way down that if there was anyone from here that I expected to see five minutes off the bus, it was Stoatie. Five minutes off the bus, we run into Stoatie looking totally fucked after a massive (13hr?) shift as festival security and wearing a hi-viz jacket. Was a bit of an incongrous image.

Ah, lovely. Lordy, how long is it since we last met, old chap? Must be at least 3 years. I think I feel a desperate attempt at a Hogmanay DeadBarbemeet coming on. Haven't seen TTT and Nobody's Girl for yonks, either.

On the occasion of my fortieth birthday, during my celebratory tea at the Dorchester, I realised that one of my friends was in fact Goodness Gracious Meme. We met in real life a while ago, but have only recently realised that we'd "met" online too. That was an interesting moment.

No. I liked Miley Cyrus before she went all pop, though.

There's a Montanatorium on her round our house.

Cube, would be lovely to meet and catch up again, I would definitely be up for that.

A day or two after seeing Haus for the first time at a pub he walked by me twice in a matter of minutes close to the Thames where there was some summer festival with fireworks.

Well if any of you see a rotund fella in a Barbelith t-shirt (I occasionally wear it when walking up and down the Earth) then don't be afraid of stepping up and saying "Boy howdy.".

It may not be me, but you never know.

Haus Of Pain

Hannah Monatana? Anyone?

Haus Of Pain
10:23 / 10.12.09
I mean to say Hannah Montana not Hannah Monatana! I would have posted to edit but no active mods etc as hopefully they're all off checking out Hannah Montana YEAY! Huggles!

What I really like about all this popular crap like HM is how easily it gets discarded when some new moon comes along. I look forward to that moon being eclipsed by some other pubescent pablum quite soon!

Hannah Montana is not crap and has loads of time to develop as an artist.

I thought she was very good in Bolt!

Haus Of Pain
14:16 / 10.12.09
I met HM last week, she's in at work doing rehearsals for some shows. She's really cool and a very talented lady. I know she's not quite Lady Gaga or Shania Twain but I would hardly call her 'popular crap'.

Wasn't that impressed with Bolt but I'm a bit of a film snob some say!

She'd never get into the Dorchester dressed like that.

Funny. She doesn't look like a glam rocker.

Well I'm sure I've run into most folk at some time or other, especially with there only being circa 500 real people in the world (don't you love circa? to me it means bollox I don't know but I'm going to have a posh guess that will instantly have some unreasonable amount of credability). So anyway, I wouldn't know my Haus from my Keggers from my Brazilain DM, although I wouldn't expect to see them together and being a non London but UK based person is unlikely, I just choose to imagine people I see everyday as potential Barbelith folk from back in the day... (was going to list some but memory failing badly, I blame Ol Tom

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
22:41 / 12.12.09
cube! YES! Was mashed. Was probably with Goodness Gracious Meme, or Gyrus or Mike Modular (who very kindly let Gyrus and I use his chalet to watch telly in while we were waiting for GGM to turn up with our tickets). They were the three 'lithers I was hanging out with at various points. Was lovely to meet you, though I was mashed off my tits.

BTW, the film was real! It was called Chatterbox, I think... it had the added bonus of being made in the 70s when the couldn't actually SHOW ladyparts, so the star of the show was never actually visible. So on one level, at least, it was a masterpiece of subtlety.

Nice to see you, Stoat! On topic (which is so crucial), I saw grant a couple of months ago, which was swell. Much nicer than his bitter, derisive, and generally unpleasant online persona.

That's OK, dude! It takes a while to develop a filmic palate!

Speaking of, while she's started dabbling in movies, she has yet to make her version of Clambake.

I can't shake the suspicion that water-skiing instructor is going to be as attractive to the kind of lady who gets water-skiing instruction as son of a rich man. He should really have changed places with a loss adjustor or similar.
