| Has anyone here read anything by him? I'm about a hundred pages into Darconville's Cat, and I'm not sure what I think. He's clearly smart, but it's annoying when I need to consult my OED and/or look up a Classical allusion at least once a page (especially in a 700 page book). He's funny, but his humor relies quite heavily on negative stereotypes and a deep meanness of spirit that starts to wear after a while. I'm definitely intrigued enough to keep reading, but it's hard to know what to think here. Perhaps it will all make sense by the end. |
