aim for joviality
17:56 / 22.01.08
Post here with your love for the way a person posts; air your current Barbe-crush and help someone feel appreciated for the effort they put into posting.

It's probably not quite a Barbecrush for being a little non-specific, but I am feeling a warm feeling towards everyone in the Magician in swaddling clothes thread. Great thread, people!

And, welcome to exultant801; congrats on starting a really interesting discussion from your first topic.

Ooh, exultant801! Crushed in your first week. You got teh barbesexy.

I will do my annual crushing of Venger/Kegboy because he is one of my dearest friends and makes me laugh all the time.

And of course XK because....who doesn't crush XK? Do I really need to explain this people?

I would like to add:

Iamus - because you are simply scrabulous!

Papers - because you make my mouth water

Decadant - because you make me think about things in a different yet vivid manner

Princess - for being fun and fabulous

Aim for joviality - for the top smartypants and for really caring

Boboss - for being a caring soul too and also a kickin' dad

Stoats - because you always rock with your down-to-earth wisdom

Ta hun

I love you, Talks to Strangers. You're my hero. You're writing such good sense in the Otherkin thread - asking all the questions I've never quite been able to articulate. xxxx

exultant801 is a really good example of how a new member can get the best out of the Temple. Ze was upfront, courteous, asked honest questions, gave honest answers, and engaged with others when asked to supply more info. Good stuff.

I reciprocally crush the wonderful aim for joviality, who has contributed an enormous amount of good things to the board, XK who is just too fabulous to describe, and the usual Templer suspects. I crush Ex for the whole lesbian haircut thing, Evil Scientist for giving the Lab the love I cannot, and Stoatie because eh's a pretty cool guy. Haus must also get a mention for working so hard to keep what's left of the board afloat.

I barbecrush miss wonderstarr for hir endearing concern for Alex's Grandma in the banning thread. The chances of AG actually being broken into are fairly slim (apologies if it did happen AG, but the law of averages seems to dictate it didn't), but wonderstarr's sincere reaction was very humane and good natured.

Sadly, that made me feel like a mug, but... I suppose there are worse things to be than well-meaning and naive.

While I'm here, let's pass the baton! I really appreciate E. Randy Dupre for keeping my gaming thread afloat with long, thoughtful, heavily-invested, visually-supported and seriously fascinating replies.

I was unsure that a Barbecrush thread was a very good idea at this stage in the life of the board. I am now fairly sure that it was a very bad idea indeed. Still, kudos to AFJ for trying. I admire her commitment.

Any particular reason?

"Not that AG was burgled, but well done to Miss W for being so lovely!"

"Oh, well, you know, it's a shame people lie... but if being lovely is wrong, I don't really want to be right."

Oy.

Two problematic posts doesn't suggest to me that starting the thing was a really bad idea, though. People will always crush other people for reasons that one finds inexplicable or reprehensible - I thought the thread was intended for fun and interconnection, particularly welcome at this point on the board.

Haus, I obviously misinterpreted Alex's Grandma's post over on the Policy topic. I'm just so used to reading every post that he writes with massive sarcasm/irony quotes around them that I assumed ze was taking the piss. I then barbecrushed miss wonderstarr for, not being naive, but for actually imagining that what Grandma says might be true and showing care towards hir.

Of course, it doesn't make me any less of an asshole for not taking the assault on AG at face value.

You may be right, Ex, but, but, will this not simply reinforce how far we have fallen, how low we have sunk, for how little we can bring ourselves to declare a crush on somebody?

What words shall escape the fence of our teeth?

West Baltimore Hausing Project

Don't mind me. I am grumpy at the way that AG has been actively encouraged to turn feral, as indeed has half the board. I can understand the standards whereby sometimes we believe people's claims unconditionally, or at least affect to (someone we like, someone who is saying something really bad happened), and the processes by which we do not. It just feels like a pretty pass when people are barbecrushed for basic human decency, especially when rescinded. I suppose it beats being barbecrushed for actively horrible activity, though.

16:52 / 31.01.08
No, you're right there. I felt a bit mixed-up about the possibility that the burglary report had just been a convincing bit of fiction, after I'd felt genuinely sympathetic and concerned, and the idea that it was an invented story hadn't crossed my mind (AG was particularly supportive to me in the past when I had a distressing encounter with violent crime). The idea that I might have been tricked made me feel foolish.

But it would probably have been best if I hadn't posted in response to the original "crush" on here.

And FWIW, I've apologised to AG about the whole not believing his account of the burglary. I thought I was familiar enough with AG's tone to interpret it is a joke, but obviously I was wrong.

So yeah, I won't be barbecrushing people for basic human decency in the future.

... I have no doubt that I am going to get it in the neck something chronic as a result of this statement, and will once again find myself in the unfortunate situation of arguing with people I like over principle

Haus, your willingness to argue with people you like over principle is one of the things I like most about you. I am glad you do it, and appreciative of its effect on this community.

for how little we can bring ourselves to declare a crush on somebody?

I'll crush you for keeping the preposition in that sentence away from the end. Is that little enough?

And Talks to Strangers - thank you, I took the plunge yesterday and now have the haircut of a much younger and more miserable person.

It's just Haus's way of knowing you'll be free to go to prom with him, Randy! He's a rascal.

When is the Barbeprom, anyway? What's the theme this year? I hope it's not "The Beach" again. It's almost impossible to get melted Plastic Leonardo DiCaprio out of denim.

Pretty much everyone in the man-shaving thread. Supercrush. Mad Max: Beyond Thundercrush.

Is the only cure for barbecrush continual exposure and subtle inoculation?

I sort of half-abandoned the 'lith, popped in, and that thread's made me all blushy and drooly, and so I went here and y'know what? More crush fodder.

Barbelith, I bat my eyes and hum purringly at you.

You know, at some point Triplets and I are just going to have to invest in a LOT of fiber-optic cable to thread between our continents that will hook on either end into our brain pans. Or we could have our heads surgically implanted onto a weird octopus creature that will be controlled by our thoughts. Or we'll get married. Haus can be the Maid of Honour (brains-in-jars look fabulous in orange taffeta!).
