Happy because MattShepherd--my beautiful fiance' is coming into town tomorrow. Tears because I just went out to my car to get something out of it and found a loudly crying cat looking for shelter from the cold. She's preggers. I can't bring into my house because I have two cats would not appreciate my gesture. I am in tears because I don't know what to do. My fiance' has already told me over the phone, "You CANNOT take her in." And he's right. I can't.

Okay, more tears than happy.

My neighbour and her boyfriend came out for the night as I was sitting on my steps, crying my eyes out, and my neighbour tried calling a friend of hers who works for a no-kill shelter (and ask Matt, I AM VERY BIG ON NO-KILL SHELTER) but the sad truth is this: the city of Atlanta is not going to spend our ASPCA on one little pregnant cat in the inner city. Which breaks my heart. Which makes me feel like a heel. I know I am the Crazy Cat Lady and I am so okay with that. I love cats. They are everything I want to be.

She's out there right now, about to pop, and I am stupid human who cannot help her. I suck.

Just try to make her comfortable, that's all you can do. Bring out blankets and warm milk, keep an eye on her, and wait to hear back about the no-kill shelter situation. It may not be pretty but it's beyond your control, and you should not feel guilty about that. Cuddle with your own cats, keep warm, keep an eye on her. Watching over her probably does more than you think.

I have been outside the house since writing my posts. She is nowhere to be found. I am hoping it is as Matt says and that cats have been having babies for time immemorial and that she has found a safe warm place somewhere here in the neighbourhood to have them. I hope so. God, I hope so.
