December 2007 CD Mix - A Very Barbelith Xmas

I hope no-one minds me steaming in and claiming this mix, but Xmas CDs are something of a speciality of mine. Despite Stoatie's valliant efforts, Santa failed to deliver a Barbemix last year, but I know you've all been good boys and girls, so I promise you one for this Christmas. I realise it's a repeat theme, but there are loads of great Xmas songs out there and I aim to make it something you'll be getting out every year, along with It's A Wonderful Life, the Phil Spector album and Bad Santa...

Would anyone object if I had a list of BANNED songs that are ineligible* (Wham, Slade, Wizzard etc)? Just to keep things more interesting. Cover versions are, of course, OK.

I'd like to get all the tracks by the 1st weekend of December. Might even stretch to a double CD, if there's demand. We'll see, eh...?

You know the drill...

(*full list yet to be determined, but, you know, just avoid anything you're likely to be hearing in shops for the next month or so...)

I'm definitely up for it!

I decided against last years Christmas mix because finding a suitable track seemed too difficult, I've come around to seeing it as a wonderful challenge, and regretted not doing it ever since.

Tsuga
01:47 / 15.11.07
I almost did this, but I knew I didn't have the time, and I'm glad you've gone and done it. May I please be totally in? With the exceptions as usual for tight space and those who have not participated before.

11:10 / 15.11.07
I want to join, too, please!

Is it okay, if I use my choice of last year?

Mike Modular
12:00 / 15.11.07
Cool, three so far then. Sorry Mist, but you'll have to choose a different track. I should have stipulated: nothing that was on last year's (because it *could* make an appearance one day, eh...?). I might also reserve the right to question a submission (as much as I love the Pipettes and Amiina, I'm not sure they'd be sufficiently festive to get on *my* Christmas mix...) So, like, them's the rules. But otherwise, goodwill to all and all that...

petunia
12:31 / 15.11.07
But that Amiina track is festive spirit distilled...

I'm in, but would like clarification on what needs to be xmassy. Do we need specific lyrics that erfer to Christmas? Does it need sleighbells?

Mike Modular
12:44 / 15.11.07
Sleighbells not compulsory, but some nod to the season (but not necessarily the Christian holiday) is preferable... Oh, I dunno, I'll decide when I get the submissions and see what kind of shape the mix is taking (And, er, come to think of it actually, the Amiina track was probably my favourite last year...)

That's FOUR.

petunia
14:39 / 15.11.07
oh,

Are you talking about the 'glitch' version of the Amiina track, or the proper one? I've just remembered that it god cross-encoded funny. The glitch one was definitely not very chrismassy...

grant
17:24 / 15.11.07
I'm interested, but keep me as an alternate in case better ideas come forward.

kidninjah
17:51 / 15.11.07
I have a horrible funny festive track in mind already (i like the odd novelty record). However, as I joined in TheNovemberMix, feel free to pick others ahead of me. And to discount my choice on grounds of being rotten. You'll see.. you'll see...

Stoatie's power level is >9000
04:06 / 16.11.07
Yay, I'm in!

Yeah, that Amiina track was a Flac file, which I couldn't decode properly for some reason. I thought it was supposed to sound like that... (never heard them before)

Mike Modular
11:36 / 16.11.07
You're all in, such is the spirit of the time... OK, kidninjah, send me your track and we'll see...

I'd forgotten about the glitchcore version of Seoul. Less Christmassy than the original, but I still liked it...

The Llama Cascade
(prev. All the strange,strange Llamas)
15:37 / 16.11.07
I have a really hyper cheesy track to submit, so I'd love to be in! With the obligatory stipulation that if somebody who hasn't done one of these before would like to submit a track, then I'll give up my space.

Feverfew
20:17 / 16.11.07
I'd like to be in on this, with a likewise llama-ic stipulation.

Moominpingle
00:43 / 17.11.07
I'll contribute. Ho ho ho, and all that.

Erm, I've not done one of these yet. Does it just consist of emailing mp3s for those who aren't the person organising?

Mike Modular
04:59 / 17.11.07
I'll PM everyone with my email address shortly, Pingles, so send your track there...

Moominpingle
11:06 / 17.11.07
Thank'ee!

Stoatie's power level is >9000
17:23 / 17.11.07
Obviously, if you get oversubscribed give my place to someone else- I think I've been on all of them so far.

Mon Oncle Ignatius
18:34 / 17.11.07
I'd like to join in, please. I have many Xmas songs of dubious comedy value; some of them actually very good.

Olulabelle
21:11 / 17.11.07
I'd like to be in if there is space. I would also like more clarification on the definition of 'Christmassy'.

I am a bat. I am a man.
(prev. Triplets)
01:43 / 22.11.07
I'd also like to be one if there's room. Haven't done one of these for a while!

Mike Modular
13:54 / 23.11.07
OK, I'm going to PM the following with where to email their songs:

Petunia
Pacific State
Mistoffelees
kidninjah
Llama
Stoatie
grant
Feverfew
Pingles
Tango-Mango
Tsuga
Olulabelle
Ant-Man

There's still room for more...

I guess 'Christmassy' can be subjective, but if you stick to songs that are more or less explicitly about Xmas or related seasonal things, you can't go wrong really...

Oh bugrit! Count me in, please?

Mike Modular
14:53 / 02.12.07
Ho-ho-ho-K, so there's still a few people who need to send their tracks and I'd like to get it mixed, burned and printed before I disappear to ATP next weekend. So please, please, please can I get them all in by Tuesday...? THANKS!

petunia
15:16 / 02.12.07
Shit.

I'm going to have to bail. I can't for the life of me think of a single xmas song I'd want to offer up and I don't have the time at the moment to go searching...

Sorry!

16:09 / 04.12.07
So please, please, please can I get them all in by Tuesday...? THANKS!

Bumpitty bumping, just to remind my fellow contributors of the submission date. Also, because I'm really eager to hear this Christmas-mix!

Sh.... I'll let you know by tonight if I'll make it. Sorry.

16:14 / 04.12.07
Crap, this one got lost somewhere along the way. I'll try to get you a track by midnight tonight, but I'm having major trouble finding one.

Mike Modular
19:00 / 04.12.07
Weeeeeeell, I reckon I can stretch to another day. So, tracks in by Wednesday night, or you're on the naughty list... It's a shame to lose anyone off this, so please send something if you're suddenly struck with inspiration Petunia. It'd be good to get at least ten entries. Althoughl, I'm going fill up the rest of the disc with my own choices at any rate, so either way you'll all be getting 70+ minutes of festive vibes...

18:06 / 05.12.07
Against all odds I've found some Christmas songs I like.

Tsuga
02:14 / 06.12.07

People, puh-lease.
Petunia, surely you can come up with something? Think of nearly any artist you admire, and there's a fair chance that they have a christmas song (or songs). Ella Fitzgerald, Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, Rick Springfield, whatever. Find one, and if you have to, download it, it will only take a minute and might cost you a tiny amount of money or you may be able to get it for free. You can do it!
Or, not.

petunia
02:32 / 06.12.07
Oh fuck you Tsuga and your evil fucking peer pressure that has made me remember a track that I like that I'd never associated with christmas but which SAYS THE WORD CHRISTMAS!

Back. In.

Mike Modular
02:43 / 06.12.07
That's a lovely impassioned plea there Reverend. And, hey, it worked... Lula and Nolte, there's still time to enter if you want as I'm actually a bit behind on this now. So, it looks unlikely to get sent out until the middle of next week. But no later than that, I PROMISE! Or may the Rev Tsuga strike me down...

Notes from Boris-town
(prev. Now: Nolte with added Flyboy!)
16:02 / 06.12.07
Agh fuck. And here I came to lay my shame down for all to see and say sorry I can't make it, but no, you goddamned nice bloke, yes you Mike, ruin my misery. OK THEN! I'M STILL IN!

Mike Modular
23:11 / 11.12.07
FINAL CALL!

My mix elves are impatient to burn off the CDs and start the printing press for the covers. Please hurry if you're still in...
