Heya, Ant-Man! How's by you?

It's not really that late, but hello children. I'm at work (shocking), but I'm supervisor (money!) and it's dull-dull-dull.

Hey there, folks!

Hey, Papers!

I'm pretending it's later than it is, because I'd rather shift than, y'know whatever I'm supposed to be doing at this time.

I'm trying to get up the gumption to bake up some cookies for the big Thanksgiving celebration at work tomorrow.

Everyone in this thread's going to contribute to my trauma over being devoid-of-cookie today, aren't they?

Oh, wise and generous cookie faery of the east, please bestow cookies upon thy faithful servant!

Maybe I should just go to the store.

What kind you gonna make, LN?

Liger, Audaciously Hopefull

Chocolate chip.

I'd make oreos, but I don't know how.

Deculture Decedent

Oreo seeds. Water.

Now I'm going to have to try and make chocolate shortbread cookies sometime soon. Put frosting between them.

Fear for me.

I have a rumball recipe, by the way, that I will be making soon.

Someone explain to me the appeal of V.C. Andrews, because she's pretty prolific for someone who's been dead for a very long time.

It's my opinion that Stephen King actually died when he was hit by that car a few years ago, and they replaced him with a pod person.

Like they did with Paul McCartney.

She's a brand, now, yeah? Company owned ghosting name? Like Hubbard, without Xemnos the Titan or Tom Cruise.

I know I've read something, but... there was moodiness, middle-classy, and some stab at the sex stuff designed to seem more important and pushing-it than it actually was. But I don't remember the plot or point.

Maybe that's the virtue.

I think they replaced a pod person with Paul, actually. The other Beatles are just being quietly rescued into a relocation program under new names.

Soon. Soon, will Ringo be safe!

Evening all, hope you're all doing well.

I have Fair Trade brownies and my new favourite word is prosopagnosia.

Flowers in the Attic?

I remember that book being pretty racy.

Mind you, I was about twelve when I read it.

I think all this talk of consensual incest and other creepy family goings on has roadblocked the thread. Sorry.

There was talk of consensual incest?

Hey all.

Well, no, not really, but apparently that's the appeal of V.C. Andrews. We could, if you like.

Talk about it I mean.

Hey.

Hey, Veng. You missed genital decoration discussion, and VC Andrews.

See what happens when you're late to the lateshift?

Hey. Dont give me non of that "see what happens when you're late... you folks started early. You started WITHOUT ME!!!

IIRC, the incest was not exactly consensual in Flowers in the Attic, at least not at first. Sure, there was all this "that's OK, I wanted you too" talk afterward, which struck me as utter bollocks even as a kid.

Deculture Decedent

So, does her work appeal to anybody currently in this thread? What aspects?

I read Flowers... later than most people discover it, I think, and had the reverse-from-standard-experience of having already read Nabokov's Ada and some Sade, so the sexually- (and socially-) based trauma part of the text perhaps didn't have as much impact for me, but the polite-torrid stylings were entertaining enough I'm pretty sure I finished the book. I just don't remember any details.

Worth a reread? Does anyone have firsthand familiarity with any of the ghosted newer stuff?

When Papers gets back, I'll have to enquire as to the spurring impetus that got us all on this.

This shift's practically been going semi-steadily since we went to sleep last night, V. It's disconcerting.

There is no excuse for burning cookies. EVER!

EVER.

In my younger days, I would deliberately (not that I'd admit that, even to myself) slightly burn at least a few cookies on the tray, so I could eat them all myself and tell my brother and whomever else, they weren't any good 'cause they were burnt.

It was a good excuse, because it involved eating cookies. Lots of them.

I think I'm going to have gin with my salmon tonight. I want to see if they go together at all, and if they don't, it's okeh because I'm not mixing them, but will consume a little of one, little of the other, and so on.

This is the height of planning I'm capable of, this evening.

And still disappointed that I haven't any cookies.

I don't think I've read it since young, though it recently resurfaced from the crates of books and my partner thought it was hilarious. Hilariously bad at least.

Memory serving, isn't it one of those genre convention things where he forces her manfully but she wants it really and submits things? I mean, not on obviously, but amid the general absurdity not that surprising?

Shamefully I've read the prequel and the sequel, which as far as I recall suggests that semi-consensual incest can be genetically transmitted, and that once you're free in the big wide world it's still ok if you want it bad enough, even if you're raising children and Mummy and Uncle keep doing it on the living room floor.

Keggers From The Crypt

If its any consolation I too have no cookies.

That's okay, they're not blackened or anything. Just "a little on the toasty side, needs milk" burnt.

even if you're raising children and Mummy and Uncle keep doing it on the living room floor.

Or rather Mummy and Uncle are living together as husband and wife, which is pretty much the gist of the story.

Blake Head

Is it? It all seems so long ago.

Just how much and how recently have you been reading Andrews Liger?
