I think I'm getting used to periodically being reminded we (the 'we' shifting semi-frequently) are not in a relationship. Not that kind. Entirely.

I'm getting to enjoy it, actually, as it seems to put people on more comfortable ground, and I'm crap at having expectations of people in those areas.

The getting to know you, securing their attentions (and thereby being owed attention, sex, whatever) end... um... haven't we got a resident super-amorous, super-condensed-relationship-loving type to make the sell to Meddy? Three a.m. conversations may not cut it, as they are obtainable otherwise.

I'm afraid it's never is, Hellraiser. That seems to be true for all of Barker's films, actually, and you walk away knowing it, but still... sometime down the line... you forget that it wasn't and watch it again.

Strangely, going into it with no pretense seems to keep the film at a higher (or consistent) level. At least, I can still watch Split Second or My Dear Secretary every so often without feeling pangs of Didn't this used to be better? running through the viewing experience.

I think I've seen bits and pieces of Split Second. I have this theory that any movie will be better if they add Rutger Hauer.

The other is what happens when you try to do Bringing Up Baby with Kirk Douglas as a lazy gambling/womanizing writer and his former college roommate who never seemed to move out. And an Edmontonian secretary. And then forget what movie you're making two thirds in.
