Stoatie. Stoatie? STOATIE.

Evening, kids. Off to bed soon (can't get too drunk as I'm at the opera again tomorrow afternoon), but I thought I'd pop in and say hello.

Stoatie! Darling! You're a gentleman and a lady. And a scholar. Hope the opera is a delight.

Hey, Papers. Yeah, it should be- it's the last part of the Ring, (which has been going on all week), so it's got a lot to live up to!

How long does that opera run again?

Papers, just bang a UK after Wales. Shouldn't make too much difference but it doesn't hurt to play safe.

It's about, erm, fifteen or sixteen hours all told?

Anyhoo, I'm off to bed... Shift nicely, guys!

Nothing like being miserably hungry and bitter in a hot, strange place to get one feeling lovely after a shave and a half-billion showers.

I feel postively refined, these days. And the barbe-weddings have done me good.

You've got an anniversary coming up, right, XK?

Too quiet?

Anyhow, how you doing tonight, Venger? At least semi-productive with an interesting wine at hand, I hope.

Not really. I do indeed have wine. Its some sort of red, the name of which eludes me. Productive? ..no. I've been repeatedly forcing myself into doing some work on designs for a mural that I'm supposed to do for a friend but Im really not in a frame of mind for anything more than drinking.

Long looooong day tomorrow. I don't even think I'll be up to spelling 'productive' by the end of it, but I will feel oddly proud and accomplished. Like the monkey with a persimmon you see in old Japanese paintings and sculptures.

Script meeting. The plan is to find a mid-ground politically, so we can all carry on forward without offending each other and making the project muddled. Under the circumstances, I'd rather offend people I find to be promoting political positions detrimental to me still liking human beings. (I've got a lot invested in this whole human thing and don't want that to come to nought over a few idiots.)

Normally, this would be a few hours, but someone had the notion an all-day thing would end in brilliance.

meh..lately i'm finding it highly over rated.

Well, I must like humanity enough to dine in the presence of a bunch of them. And avoid dehumanizing myself with a screwdriver and some vodka. At least for now.

Which, basically, means I'm off to have dinner somewhere with more food than here. Preferably cooked.

Will shift on return, if anything's still kicking.

I am kind of here, kind of writing a paper. Sometimes writing about people who "disappear" or somebody that is an unperson in Orwellian terms gets a bit depressing.

Hi, shift.

I'm trying to write a story about super-heroes without delving into shitty "Soon I Will be Invincible" comic book-tweeness. I have no idea if it's working.

What's it like, this story? It's the notion that superhero means un-nuanced characterization and plot mechanics that bothers me. (It can have those, certainly, and still be made to work, but it's not defined or dependant on such.) I suspect you're not going down that route.

And does it involve the worlds temple or church? I'm quite fond of her, you know.

At the moment, the super-heroes are shadowy urban legend figures referred to by the unnamed narrator as being fables; I stole a line from a New Pornographers song to open the beast with and consequently they're more like urban folklore. I don't know. It's very unfocused and barely the beginnings of a first draft. Templechurch might end up in the story, simply so I can flesh her out; I've put the Hotel Detective on hold until November to let the ideas percolate. Then I'll treat it like a NaNoWriMo project.

Awkward plot mechanics and shallow characterization is not my focus. But I'm not going to act like I'm recreating the egg; I listened to a radio interview with the creator behind Heroes and his "approach" to super-powers was so blatantly unoriginal even as he acted like he somehow writing a startling new thing; it turned me off ever even attempting to watch the show (which wasn't really in the cards anyway, as it sounds like a terrible televised remake of those fucking New Universe comics from back in the day).

At the moment, I'm trying to pin down the narrative voice and then there's the issue of plot. For the moment, we're being told tales of the basement level super-heroes as though they were myths; but they're not.
