I don't know, I keep being rewarded for a willingness to keep faith in the rational. I started reading scripture as if it was notes from a long line of brain hackers with cargo cultish encrustations. Something like open source, with manual translated from the japanese: if it's running you into the wall it's probably not helping. It kind of crossed in my mind with the new psychological stuff about the power of mental images: victor frankl and all that, recovery of the heart's treasure, and useful anchoring positive states of mind. Now I see the mystic's state of mind as a useful mode for functional humans: what if all heaven was just bait for helping people to get some emotional security in place enough to work for peace and justice? Don't mind me though, I'm just playing.
