I'm 21 today, and, for reasons beyond my control, far from my friends. Also, not in a relationship. This bums me out to no end, but I don't want to go around feeling sorry for myself; so, once again, I must turn to Barbelith in times of need.

I had a lousy 21st birthday as well - I'd just been dumped, had gone home to recuperate, parents were at work, so spent the day wandering around Southsea on my own feeling desolate. Things have improved considerably since! Happy birthday and may they do so for you also.

Take in the pleasanter side of Hell, though. Learn to enjoy the myriad options of hot coals and ridiculous temptations all around you.

I hear Hell's actually a pretty decent place for a lot stuff. Meet people with interesting stories all the time, and once you're damned it's pretty hard to really put your heart into condemning or judging anybody else. Plus, nobody really minds if you duck out with somebody halfway through a party. Unless it's on that nobody-touches wing, Dante went on about for a bit. Be kind and let them at least have a voyeuristic, vicarious thrill.

Barbelith? Also good for birthdays. And meeting people with interesting stories. And there's cake.

Learn to enjoy cake. If you already enjoy cake, tell yourself you need to relearn or train to enjoy it better. And do so. Again.

Thanks everybody for posting! My starting this therad has given an answer to the age-old equation: Drunk + Sad + Posting on Barbelith = NOT GOOD! Should not do it again.

Well, actually, Grandma, it's pretty much the opposite of that, I feel I've done pretty much nothing of worth in the last 20 years, and that in some ways I have fallen behind compared to other people my age. I think I'm having a one-fourth-life crisis. Still: HEY! CAKE!

Also, Venger, that's one AMAZINGLY ACCURATE representation of what's going on over here.

Again, thanks, to all you random internet guys and gals for cheering me up! IMAGINARY CAKE FOR EVERYBODY!
As for me; well, I'm off to get drunk and sad so I can keep posting.
