Has anyone read any good biographies or autobigraphies about Andy Warhol? Oddly enough he is one artist who I don't know much about. Whatever happened to Grant Morrison's graphic novel about Mr. Warhol?

Wasn't that just a lie he stuck in the back of Arkham Asylum for fun?

I highly recommend Andy Warhol's "Popism" book. It's an autobiography of Warhol throughout the 60s. It's a really fun, entertaining, informative read. It's very helpful in terms of demonstrating the meaning behind what Warhol was trying to do with the popism movement.

I highly recomend Andy Warhol's A-B,alegedly by the man himself.Pretty much sums up much of his attitude, wit and charm.

Try Deborah Kass's ironic supplement The Warhol Project

Try also using Kass to supplement Solanas in the other debates about'feminazis' surfacing in the headshop and conversation - Kass being an artist working within a context rather than tragically going mad on her own as did Solanas.

Slightly at a tangent, I don't think much of I Shot Andy Warhol as a quasi-doco. In particular, it misrepresents Solanas's feelings towards transfolk, apparently to bring her into line with contemporary radical feminists.

what were her feelings? and what did they update them to? Were her feelings toward transfolk quite negative?

No, in the SCUM Manifesto she's quite positive about transwomen, seeing them as the highest form of male life, or the natural consequence for biological men of the unconscious recognition of the inherent superiority of women. The film represents her as quite transphobic. It also tends to oversimplify her views on gender, as have a number of posters on this board recently. The SCUM Manifesto describes and precipitates a tremendous explosion of gender roles and positions; not just SCUM vs men, but also daddy's girls, girly men, a really rich and complex variety of gender roles. I don't think you get a sense of that in the film.
