I like pancakes any time of day or night, but I suck at making them properly round. And never could get the hang of the chocolate chip ones, even though one of my brother's happiest memories of our childhood centers around them.

This is how sad my family is: My mother mentions the happiest Christmas our family had, the first one we really did anything holiday-esque for. She remembers all the happiness. We couldn't remember it. She mentions the year and it clicks. My bro remembered chocolate chip pancakes. I remembered that the local Fire Dept. gave us a canned ham. Neither of us realized that was for Christmas.

We were amazingly disconnected from proper American culture as kids in so, so many ways, and I think, at the time, I might not have entirely got that X-Mas was like one day (and evening), and just assumed it was, y'know, December.
