The Great Green Elbow
(prev. Gotham City Blues (aka D-Megs))
19:06 / 01.02.08
I torrent-ed the Voyage of the Damned last week, and don't have much to add to what was said, except for two things:

1) Wait a minute! That was Kylie Minogue? I totally didn't recognize her. (And this Doctor really has a thing for blondies, doesn't he? Martha - my favourite companion so far - was all over him for one-plus year and he hardly noticed her. Five minutes with bland-faced Astrid and he's in love again. Well, each to their own, I guess.)

2) However fine Tennant is, I do miss Eccleston's Doctor more and more.

When is the new series debuting? Me wants it, yesss.

The Llama Cascade
(prev. All the strange,strange Llamas)
20:20 / 02.02.08
New series will probably start anywhere from the middle of March to the start of April. There's no definite time announced yet, but it's getting closer!

And also, the spoilerish cinema trailer for season 4. Watch it before it's taken down!

Our Lady Drinks Your Milkshake
20:05 / 18.02.08
Catherine Tate will be in conversation with David Tennant (and then David Tennant will be in conversation with someone else) on Chain Reaction, BBC Radio 4 this Thursday evening at 6:30. Then, through the powers of the BBC Listen Again feature, it'll be available for a week afterwards.

Has anyone seen this? [MAJOR SPOILER ALERT FOR FUTURE DR. WHO AND TORCHWOOD SERIES]

Robert Carlyle as the 11th Doctor?

Sounds intriguing (though not necessarily credible). Or, as the article's author puts it, "head-scratching"

A Begbie who comes back after death? We already had this in 28 Weeks Later...

WHEN O WHEN WILL THEY CAST TILDA SWINTON?

Although the loss of a certain amount of dead wood from Torchwood wouldn't necessarily go amiss ...

Evil Scientist

13:51 / 05.03.08
I'm still perversely aroused at the thought of Jason Statham as the Doctor myself.

You know, oddly enough, I could go with that.

Ooh, Torchwood ep 11 looks at though it's being scheduled for Good Friday, which is unusual. Possible Who-age due on that Saturday, then?

Lee Scratch Perry would make the best Doctor. He would take the franchise back to its William Hartnell-style demented old geezer roots. The Tardis would be significantly redecorated and renamed the Black Ark, and fitted with its own massive soundsystem, and he would have adventures such as "Dalek Babylon 2046" and "Sontaran Dreadlocks".

It's almost that time of year again. I absolutely love the Doctorishness of Donna's suit. Apparently the writer of one of the New Series Adventures wrote an article for his local newspaper saying that Donna is absolutely fantastic in the three episodes he's seen of her. I'd put to bed any feelings of apprehension about Donna as the companion long ago, but reading how fantastic she is and seeing that picture really makes me appreciate the word "squee."

More (and at a proper resolution) here

Scully-licious.

I hadn't thought of it like that, but it's very Scully, isn't it?

There's going to be a long trailer for series four this Saturday (22nd), just after Toy Story 2 and just before John Barrowman's "I'd do anything." Which is incidentally the man's career plan. Anyway, on the 4th April, Catherine Tate and David Tennant will be appearing on Jonathan Ross which all seems to indicate to this Who-addled brain of mine, that an April 5th start date seems most likely.

Cribbed from Private Eye!

Rumbled!

Cribbed from Outpost Gallifrey, who probably cribbed from Private Eye. So, er..only sort of rumbled. It's still a funny joke though.

Darn, I'm going to miss a goodly chunk of the season whilst I'm in Oz. Ahh well. It'll be back in three seconds on BBC3.

Feverfew

I thought that was fun, even if the Adipose were creepier than they possibly should have been and even if I expected them to be advertising a mobile phone at some point.

It was interesting that they set out that the Doctor's deliberately wanting to avoid the possibility of falling in love with a companion again, too.

Plus a Piper cameo.

I have an odd feeling we're going to see the Adipose again, which is most likely totally wrong.

Captain John's Lipgloss
22:21 / 05.04.08
I liked the (apparently?) throw-away line about the bees disappearing - it made me think of the X Files and then So Long And Thanks For All The Fish.
I think that one might crop up again.
More kid-friendly than some recent episodes, but so much better than I'd feared.

considering the first episodes always rubbish (save 'smith and jones') that was fun,
bearnard cribbins dancing with the 'you go girl' was glorious, he probably won't get it but he deserves a Tardis trip just for the cool and joyous 'and its him!'
as donna pointed out some of us crumble before the universe and some of us embrace it.
and despite me having huge misgivings over the return of Rose will admit to a small geekgasm but we better get a huge dose of Mickey and Jacqui at some point
someone with more skill than me should do a slice of the mothers united fanfiction.
possibly they could all take turns at slapping him.
and nice to have some lauding of Martha and her effect on the Doctor.
Is there a word for this season? or is every ep going to feature a ghostly Rose looking on and then wandering out of phase.
next week looks grand anyroad, reminds me of 'brain of morbius' but i'm sure that's just women in robes chanting
and
regardless, Doctor Who is back!
my life just got better

Tate and Tennant are a brilliant pair. Their mime/mouthing scene was glorious and very reminiscent of something that Tom Baker and Lalla Ward might have done. She's (as expected) brilliant at the humour and brings comic timing to the role that Freema Agyeman didn't exactly have in buckets. Can't wait to see where they go with the Rose stuff.

I suspect that she might be some sort of Pariah figure, doomed to drift between Earths being destroyed by the Daleks or whoever. Oooh, that sort of ties in with the Adiposian throneworld being destroyed.

Yeah, I noticed that...and not just as an ideal but as a real organisation the Doctor can alert. Odds-on we'll see what they are at some point.

No seriously, they were cute. Even though I expected them to go all RAAAHHHRR with massive teeth like the adorable aliens in Galaxy Quest the whole way through, I wasn't disappointed when they didn't.

RTD seems to have fatally confused the roles of midwife and nanny in the "they don't need her any more" bit though, especially since it's ONLY after the babies are born that the parents need a nanny! (Duh ...) It's the midwife who's then obsolete.

Surely some of the script editors must be parents/not stupid? Although possibly they are also too scared to correct RTD on a fairly important (if nonsensical) plot point.

But apart from that, pretty all right. Tate better than expected except in the "I'll find him Grandad" wistful schlock scene; she's a bit crap at playing emotion in a non-cheesy way at the moment.

Also excited to see that Peter Capaldi!!!! is in the next one ...
