A thread for discussing feelings of anxiety, despair or existential ennui that have been brought on, or at least accelerated, by lolcats.

(I await the forthcoming 'Kitteh' posts with pretty much unmixed dead, you pranksters! I may well have a heart attack! Not, I suppose, that any of you would mind.)

"Unmixed dead" -- you keep your corpses in a pile, not catalogued by race/gender/manner of demise? How cosmopolitan!

Personally, I'm concerned by this need to fill up the Convo with irreverant cascade threads followed by threads that bemoan the existence of the first sort of threads and seek to console the Barbebody over the resulting ennui. Do we need to rename the Convo as the Psychiatrist's Couch? Agony Aunt-Forum?

On the plus side, it's like the barbannoy thread has left the Barbezeitgeist.

Hoist, perhaps, from your own petard, Mr Bond?

They'll all have gone to the great humane society in the sky in a month, alright? When somebody starts writing scholarly articles about a joke, that joke is not merely pining for the fjords.

I don't really mind the lolcats, they're a tad more amusing than ninjas and pirates, for example, but it does seem kind of bizarre to me that anyone might think they were some kind of genuinely useful tool for responding to trolling or bigotry. I think you should fight the real enemy though, Granny, which surely 'Steve' 'humour'.

Yes Granny, I do find them slightly annoying when they crop up in threads that are actually going somewhere (which can be quite frequently, currently). Some of them are quite funny. I like Lazercat saying "Pew Pew".

I'm sure it's just a fad, darling. We sort of *want* 'lith to have fads, don't we? It's only when they start to take over completely that Lazercat's pew pewing must be scorched with Lithcat's baleful glare...

And yes, Fly, I must concur. I love Stoatie but do not particularly love Steve.

And I'm sure you're right. I have to object, though, to what seems like an on-line war against Steve.

I love him, the big dummy - is this so wrong?

I'm going to wave my virtual hand in the air, I'm going to stand up and be counted, I'm going to testify in favour of Steve - who's with me?!

Let me hear you say yeah

You old fogeys with your secret Steve in-jokes. It's like a fascist state in here.

Only, y'know, without the fascism.

Kitteh is probably as close as I'll get to liking cats. At least they're not in my house, provoking my allergies.

whew! I thought I was the only one. I mean, not that lolcats are annoying, exactly, but I'm not laughing either. I didn't even know they were around until they got onto Barbelith, actually. so in a way, it's a good thing, because up until that point I had no idea what was funny about that xkcd comic.

I only watched the star wars kid video, like, once. I think there's something wrong with me.

Msr Brigade, AFAIAC you are perfectly normal and it's everyone else that is a loony. But it's okay, I like loonies and normal people both the same.

If it's any consolation I saw the South Park Paris Hilton episode and had no idea who she was, I thought she was a South Park character. Imagine my delight when she said she was too beautiful and exciting to go to jail because her absence from our consciousness would be a blight on our otherwise mundane lives!

goddamn it...

yes, the lolruses have actually made me laugh. audibly. meaning I can feel justified saying "lol". fuck if I'm happy admitting it though...guess I've still got some growing up to do. as garfield once said, it takes a big walrus to admit his mistakes.

Those photos have deen doctored, presumably?

There's no way the walrus, as a species, is actually that potentially dangerous, is there?

You may laugh, but I don't know much about marine biology.

What photos? Are you referring to the photos of the trained walrus doing tricks with a handler?

There's no way the walrus, as a species, is actually that potentially dangerous, is there?

Well, I do know of one zoo I went to where the keepers fed the male from the safety of standing on a wall, as the male figured out he could pin a keeper to the side of his enclosure and eat all the fish in the bucket.

Unfortunately as one keeper pointed out the walrus does not realise how much stronger and heavier he is compared to us, the keeper in question was the one who suffered three broken ribs from the walrus the last time he did that trick hence they no longer fed him from inside the enclosure. This is of course about a handreared animal rather than a wild one. But I would guess they can be dangerous in the same way an elephant can be.
