Oh, I agree. It's a lot of fun. I may even pick up the trades.

Enjoyed the last issue lots, but wish he (Fraction. I refuse to believe that Brubaker has much to do with this comic) didn't feel the need to reference Audition with Bo9S. It was lazy, and in your face, and clunked to the floor, and took the wind out of a very scary character's sails.

Mind you, I liked her a whole ton of poo more than E Ho..., I mean Fat Cobra. Possibly the dullest most obvious crib in the history of dull, obvious cribs.

I mean, why bother doing that shit when you're capable of inventing Dog Brother 1? A character concept of Morrisonian purity.

The Audition thing's the 'je je je je je' isn't it? I can't remember where it happens in the film, only 'kirikirikiri'. Or 'tikitikitiki'? It's been a long while; I was definitely thinking 'hmm, Audition' but couldn't put the finger on it. Still, the bit with the spiderstorm coming out the bodice was... well, it's probably the most appalling and upsetting thing I've seen in a non-mature readers labelled book, and worse indeed than most of those. Laudable, really, to get away with it.

It's funny, I never put E Honda (or Ganryu if you prefer; I know I do) in the frame with Fat Cobra - totally glommed the fight-scene transitions were very much in the Tekken/SF2 tradition - and I'm pretty sure it's steeped in Tartan Video/Konami/etc. modern Oriental pop culture altogether, imagine Dog Brother #1 (my fave too, actually; unsure why, perhaps it's the whole co-operative vibe) is just drawn from a well nearby from whence I have not supped, but I never put the whole set-up together which is, basically, a totally sweet beat 'em up. In the Heart of Heaven? Come on, that's like Tekken 3 or so. Not enough fighters to make a magic coin-op but that's the blueprint.

I'm assuming you know Tekken is Japanese for "Iron Fist"....

Oh wow, no - although what 3's UK release was subtitled 'King of the Iron Fist' or something wasn't it? Man, I loved Tekken 3.

Hah. Good.

Finally got the trade of this. It's definitely good fun stuff. Not quite as awesome as I was hoping, but I have to hand it to Fraction - he knows how to handle Iron Fist. What I like is that unlike Daredevil, there's plenety of room for fun and weirdness in Rand's kung-funiverse alongside a suitable dollop of late 70's angst. I'm reliably informed the next arc is more fun, and a big fighty contest definitely sounds up my alley. If Fraction and co can manage to invoke the excitement of Azumi, Enter the Dragon and Street Fighter 2 all at once I will be a happy Starks.
Marvel seem to be mining gold with their seventies/early eigties characters (much as Mozzer did with DC's Seven Soldiers 70's homagefest). What with Moon Knight, Jason Aaron on Ghost Rider soon, and Iron Fist, as well as Bendis' ongoing hard-on for Luke Cage it's a happy time for Marvel. That period is prolly Marvel at it's best, with it's perfect combination of grit and 'street-level' realism, combined with ludicrous disco and punk era characters and costumes, and it's nice to see them all getting a decent modern dusting off.
Now let's have Boboss' Cloak & Dagger please. And me writing Werewolf by Night (unlike the many Werewolves by day...) while we're at it.
