next...issue's...cover... *swoons*

It's totally going to be a Spike 'n Angel bitchfest vying for her lips next time, when it's not Willow vs Amy wizards duel. Woo, and indeed Hoo...

I liked that they ruled out the sister angle early on. Though I have a feeling some of the kiss contenders who have before pledged undying romantic passionate love may fail to deliver. Kind of shitty way to find out you're over someone...
Though you know hey, why can't Amy be lying?

Buffy looks enough like Buffy that it works.

Sometimes. She looks a little young in a lot of panels- especially the first time we see her, where she looks a lot like Wonder Girl over in Teen Titans (and she's right next to a girl who looks like Molly from Runaways, so the only conclusion is OMFG TEH MULT1VERSE!52!). How old is Buffy meant to be in Season #8 anyway? 23, 24?

I was taking a walk, like you do, and it popped into my head:

"Shit I hope the whole kissy thing isn't to out someone like Giles or Willow."

I'm going to cry if there is Wuffy and Guffy slash out there (I'm sure there is). The Spander was about as much as my wee self could handle for off screen antics.

At this point I think it will be really funny if it is Andrew.

Oh and were the floaty feets/coat belonging to Willow? Or is the footwear off? I should go look again.

issue 3 out tomorrow.

I just re-read issue 2 and saw that in the dream/magickal fever sequence with Buffy asking Xander if he's coming to bed, there's a portrait of what appears to be Little Nemo In Slumberland on the wall. Nice.

I just read issue #2, and I'm enjoying the series so far. Even though Andrew's rant was a little off, I still just liked that Joss gave him some page time.

But the "true love" reveal is awesome.

SPOOHH-HOOIILLERSS!!!

It's sort of a non-reveal reveal that keeps us in suspense til next issue of who the actual kisser is, right...?

I'm trying not to read this thread but could people in some way let me know if they're enjoying this?

I want very, very much to enjoy it.

Im trying to like it but the the artwork is killing it for me.

I'm definitely enjoying it. I find Jeanty's art to be fine for the most part, fun layouts and such and good execution except for the often-strained attemps at likenesses. And I personally feel like you gotta cut anyone who does a comic based on a TV show or movie a lot of slack, since likenesses are so hard to nail and it's the rare comics artist who can really get those likenesses consistently. (although yes, Jeanty's Andrew has been consistently really bad and quite strange looking) *lol*

It's really all about the Joss writing it himself, as opposed to plotting it and letting some other writer script it. And he can do lots of crazy stuff on the comic book page (like giant Dawn) that would cost tons in a film/TV format and therefore be less viable.

Well, that was certainly a surprise guest at the end of the latest issue. As far as 'people from the Buffyverse I would never expect to show up again' go, the Master is about the only one that ranks below this guy...

Also, in the latest lettercol, Scott Allie (the, er, letter-answering... guy) throws out there that 40, 50 issues for this 'season' would not be unheard of. This fills me with emoticon-y feelings of glee! ^_^ <---- see?

Yeah I'm enjoying it. I felt the half assed kiss-reveal was made up for by the Returner at the end.

I do miss the actors and each comicbook episode has felt sadly brief to me but that's just an addiction I'll have to get over.

I do want a giant poster of Buffy's nurse dream image. Just sayin'.

Yeah, this has been pretty terrific.

I'm dying to know who kissed her - knowing Whedon, my guess is one of the many Slayers-in-training loves Buffy and wants it kept a secret.

So is the next one out today or what? (+ there's no way it's one of the trainee slayers, nuh-uh)

Wow!

That was freakin awesome. All around a great issue. Good cover, good action, funny when it was supposed to be. Awesome.

SPOILER

What did Warren mean by "a spell for your new girlfriend"? I assume it relates to Kennedy and the bit about how she was dead at some point?

there was an episode where Willow kissed Kennedy and Willow turned into Warren. it was a spell done by Amy for revenge on Willow.

Aha, thank you. I have only seen episodes from the last season once, and that was when they were airing, I figured I had forgotten something something.

SPOILERS

Ok so the lip gloss clue, red herring bogus or legit?

While I like Xander's mirror line the spouse pointed out it was all a bit too much hand waving.

The letter column keeps making me step back from the crazy fan base, rabid care bears are writing in I swear.

also I felt like Willow's condition at the end was a bit well, too invincible.

FinderWolf

seemed like the lip gloss was a clear tip-off that it was the girl standing next to her (the one who gave her the lip gloss).

I call not-a-red-herring. Because that way, we get potentially uncomfortable "So what's wrong with being a lesbian" drama between Willow and Buffy. Whenever they get around to 'revealing' the kisser to Buffy, anyway.

icicle life
11:09 / 20.06.07
Also, yes, the lettercol fanbase is a scary kind of crazy. Especially the guy that wrote in on the last issue that thought Angel and Spike ought to be gutted and the entire series should be ret-conned to Season 1 type behavior.

Read this in a rush, but it felt a bit meh for me. I think that since Whedon is'nt doing the rest of the series i felt cheated. Probably need a reread.

Didnt get the cinnamon lip gloss refernce till now. Heh.

Well, Whedon didn't write every script for the TV show, either. He's overseeing the comic in much the same way.

Which is not to deny that there's something that hasn't quite clicked for me as yet about this. I'll give it time, though.

Honestly I'm missing the actors' imput and flair. For example when Buffy rescues Willow and she says 'Problem?' it's sort of flat unless you channel it through your (ok my) memory of the excellent Alyson Hannigan.

Latest one was cool, but the best part was the teaser pic of the next cover- Faith!

Phex: Dorset Doom
01:01 / 24.08.07
Because you gotta have Faith. Do-do-do, do-do-do.

George Michael aside, the Faith arc is going to be written by, get this, Brian K Vaughan. Now, if you've read my initial post for this thread you'll probably have guessed that I have a 'thing' for Faith. I also have a 'thing' (a different, less worrying) thing for Brian K Vaughan, who, for my money, has written some of the finest comics of the 00s. Getting them together, in one book, well, that's like all my Christmasses and Birthdays come at once with Eliza Dushku doing the 'Happy Birthday... Mister Pres-i-dent' thing out of the cake. In Cleaveland for some reason.

More info here.

Just like the TV series, I think Season 8 is ultimately going to be judged on the quality of the episodes/issues Joss Whedon has no direct involvment with.

Scoring Vaughan is a major plus. I wasn't too hot on Faith being a major player this time around, but a recent rewatch of seasons 1 through 4 have got me hot for this.

But I thought Vaughan writing a Faith arc after Whedon was old news, I knew about it before the first issue dropped, have any other future creators/arcs been teased?

I've loved all 5 issues so far. The first arc was a great example of using comics to tell a story they simply wouldn't have been able to tell on TV for logistical reasons. #5 was a perfect example of a story they never would have been able to tell on TV full stop.

Does anyone have any idea how it's fared with Buffy fans who have no knowledge or interest in comics? My Fiance gave it to one of her friends who is quite anti-comics, and he... didn't hate it...

His major problem was the characters not looking enough like the actors, but he also had trouble with the rapid, unnatural scene changes. That is a problem with the writing rather than the medium, of course.
