Following on from Haus' request to not post his picture publically, yesterday I did indeed change the settings of the Barbelith group on Flickr. It's not "Private" (you can't switch back to public once a group has been made private), but instead I changed the viewing options so that only members of the group could see photos instead of any random interweb user. I'm not the only admin though (I basically gave admin status to everyone who originally joined), so if people don't like it, it can be switched. And other admins can grant user access. But I figure if people have issues with being displayed, then it's probably best to filter it to people they feel safe with, like you can with Livejournal.
My photos of that night have always been private, but if you put "private" photos into a group photo pool, then that makes them public within that group, which is why members of the group can see them. (I basically did this more so that crappy blurry drunken photos of my mates didn't show up in my photostream, really)
Re: hotlinking -- that doesn't always work unless you have your account settings fixed to let people view all sizes on their own (mine are set so that only friends can) -- but in any case, if you have a free account, you can't offer "view all sizes" to anyone.
This link is pretty good for figuring out what you want to get out of Flickr, and who can see what (including getting yourself a proper URL instead of a random series of numbers, which I reccomend)

The "boxer shorts drummer" was probably a pic of Seth in my photostream, since I tagged some pics of him with "barbelith" as well. (All my photos are tagged. Mostly for me to be able to find them easily rather than anyone else...) |
