ComicSpace - a Myspace for Comics

webcomics publisher OnlineComics' editor Josh Roberts has just put together a social system heavily-influenced by Myspace, aimed at Comic types [authors and readers alike] and set to do for them what the former did for musicians.

Networking is something most comics people I know are not very much into and maybe this can even help people portray their work, make professional connections and the like. if you have no problem reading "friends" here as "contacts".

hosting webcomics [more than 4 stories, hopefully, hehe] will be allowed in the near future and users will be able to get updates on the ones they subscribe to. for free, it seems.

it's running very smoothly as of now, save for a bit of downtime this Friday after it got Ellis-ed. since there's no Flash needed [yet], it's pretty slick and - I thought - functional. i've seen people market their comics with Myspace, but this seems much better. maybe it's the start of a very useful thing.

add me if you will: comicspace.com/hectorlima/

To be honest this feels like it could get very insular and fanboyish very quickly. I'd rather hunt out a large comic group on myspace proper - getting people's outside interests with the comic goodness.

how do you mean 'insular and fanboyish'?

there have been nw features added to the interface these past months, and now users are able to upload and host their webcomics or promote future releases. getting interesting.

I love ComicSpace. Josh put together a great site there.

It's grown so quickly! It started in December and it already has over 11,000 members.

I disagree that it will become insular and fanboy-ish. It seems like Josh has distilled all of the cool things about MySpace and made it a great community for JUST comics people. MySpace is just too cluttered and ugly.

ComicSpace is being done right, and the amount of people already signed up there is a testament to that.

Go sign up now!

added!

i suppose that if all the online social system changed "friend" to "contact" [that's how i deal with mine] all the whining about not wanting to be part of the network/envying people with more than you [as i've read this week in a CS bulleting] in the first place would come to an end; and people could enjoy the service for what it offers.

I'm on it. Totally whoring my non-existant comic and shamelessly promoting my buddy Wayne's art (whose bee's kneesiness cannot be doubted) in whatever capacity I can.

Here's everyone on ComicSpace currently using the "barbelith" tag.

More Barbelithers on ComicSpace!

I'm there, and I've added the Barbelith tag. But I've always had sort of a "well, now what?" feeling about Comicspace.
