I guess the 'Singularity' is the geek idea du jour - Stross's Accelerando is pretty much a textbook example of it.
There's also a general trend away from the kind of dystopic, cyberpunkish fiction of the eighties and an emerging positivity - c.f. William Gibsons latest books, Cory Doctorow's post-scarcity economics and Stross's geek space opera. |
