Loefah is playing a halloween party in my home town. Chtonic dubstep heaven.

Mirror, that spread looks very impressive. The roasted meat thing is a spider...isn't it?

Yep, it's a spider. I think that this year my centerpiece will hopefully be a reasonable simulacrum of a gigantic roast sewer rat; I'm planning on some creative modfication of a piglet - but haven't yet come up with a good solution as to how to do the rat hair. Perhaps some sort of breading.

Here's the bar from last year's party:

Mirror: crispy fried rice noodles!

The same rice vermicelli you'd use to make mee krob. Toss in hot oil for about a minute (or more if you want it very brown).

Possibly break them up first.

I'm pretty sure you could also get some nice effects with fat choy.

Ooh, good call on the rice noodles. Fat Choy looks like a possibility, although I'd like to know what it tastes like before I start using it all over the place.

here are pics from last year's halloween birthday party. there's no picture of my cake, which was covered with cookie crumble "dirt" and topped with various monsters, like vampires and mummies and zombies. there were some tombstones, gargoyles and even a headless horseman!

the tablecloth was covered with spider and skeleton piece "confettie" and small tombstones and tiny pumpkins, as well as some fresh daisies from my garden. I was mommy dearest last year, and a naughty nun the year before. I'm a bit stumped about a costume for this year, but a zombie anything is always good fun.

but that's for my birthday party, which is usually the week before halloween. for halloween I get bags and bags of candy (the GOOD kind) and sit on my front porch with the lit jack o laterns. I used to walk around with my my girl and her dad as she did her trick or treating, but now I sit on my porch and hand out candy while they walk around. I live in a townhouse, so there are lots and lots of kids and it's fun to see the costumes and the little ones enjoying this awesome holiday. sometimes my cousin (who is also one of my very closest friends) comes over and teases the teenagers who come around with half assed or no costumes. it's great fun.

we always go to a pumpkin farm and pick out our pumpkins, and buy some cider, apples and flowers while we're there.

Does the poor lad know what he's in for?

I don't think he does. I thought I would have to have him drink more than he did to convince him. He readily agreed, though.

I'm not sure what to make of this, but bless him all the same.

So I think I am going to try and build a Jack Knight era cosmic rod, since I have the rest of the costume ready made as part of my regular wardrobe.

This will be the most ambitious thing I have tried for Halloween to date, and I will post pictures if it ever gets made.

I miss halloween partys! Since i've got old and responsibilities they seem to have slipped away- however a few years back Gumbitch held a few legendary halloween parties.

I too remember the party that boboss is talking about with the two towers- and yes i think it was in 2001 - so very very bad taste- The two towers were actually two guys who are both approx 6'5" dressed in grey- i remember one of the towers having an alternate John Leslie costume (circa Ulrika Jonson scandal) and relished being "in character" also very bad taste.

Other great costumes from those parties include Jesus with his own portable cross and "Amen" t-shirt, a perfect Jackie Kennedy with a splattering of strawberry Jam across her shoulder, a terrifying Papa Lazarou, and Boboss's old flat mate- who turned up with no costume except a real chainsaw having drunk far far far too much. He occasionally barked incoherently at anyone that tried to take the weapon away- truely the most terrifying costume ever- and only funny when he eventually passed out...

In the last couple of years, Halloween became more and more popular here. I´m still dubious about it, but I hope at least we´ll keep it to humans, and won´t start dressing up our pets like it´s happened in New York recently. I read an article about it today with photos. They had a dog costumed up like the ring-well-girl, and they had zombie setters, princess leia labradors and pumpkin pugs.

Where is Voldemort when we need him?

Will be at the Scissor Sisters' Brixton Academy gig, at which fancy dress is apparently compulsory. Ta-Dah being heavily influenced by horror films, we're going as Clarice Starling and Hannibal Lecter. Just bought a stuffed toy lamb from Hamleys and will spatter it with blood. I'm wondering where to buy fava beans.

And "Clarice" might think about using some Evian skin cream and wearing L'Air du Temps.

The guy who went as John Leslie and the Twin Towers also made an enormous, betoothed prosthetic cock one year, that was engineered to spray both artifical blood and artificial semen. He had it sticking out of his flies, naturally.

Best costume ever.

Last year, I didn't get to dress up due to an argument with my SO who didn't want me to be a goth girl. The year before that I was a strange amalgam of gothy characters from a couple animes (Full Metal Alchemist and Hellsing, to be precise), and the three years prior to that I was the Crow (though I did a different incarnation each year, one from the movie, and the other two from the various comics).

This year I've decided to depart from the usual. I'll be Stephanie from LazyTown. I saw the costume at Target, and originally was going to combine it with a Ghost Rider costume (flaming skull head with pink hair, pink dress with spikes, big chain) because I liked the idea of Stephanie: Spirit of Vengeance and walking around singing "No one's lazy in HELL." However, upon purchasing the Stephanie outfit, I noticed that it was designed for a 8 year old girl, and is thus quite humorous enough on me. The pink wig with my large goatee and the pink dress that is essentially a belly shirt on my (overweight, exceedingly hairy) frame amuse me to no end. This year is gonna be AWESOME. I'll post pictures afterwards.

Now I just need to find something to DO on Halloween.

Me and the family will be parading about as a troop of pirates*. After years of not having the energy to be creative I've broken down and simply bought a pre-made pirate outfit. I feel like I've betrayed my youth somehow, but at least this year I'll be in costume.

*So what do you call a standard unit of pirates? An Arrrrrrrrr! of pirates? A chest of pirates? A booty of pirates?

That's WICKED!!!

I've now got two ideas... if one doesn't work, I can use most of the same stuff for the other. I'm being cagey because I want it to be a surprise when I turn up at a fellow 'lither's house in costume.
