Sons And Daughters Love You

Sons and Daughters, the newish and definitely up-and-coming band from Glasgow. Two men, two women, guitars/drums/voices, they've got a sound which is difficult to pin down neatly, but which has something of folk, something of punk, and a lot of menace and anger about it. They've been touring a lot, all over the place, and are currently supporting that Morrissey bloke on a UK tour. I'm perpetually failing to get to their gigs, but - apparently - they're very good live.

Their first full album (10 tracks, although it's still quite short) is "The Repulsion Box". The stand out track for me is the thoroughly unpleasant "Rama Lama", which is very reminiscent of Kirsty MacColl's "Can't Stop Killing You". Unfortunately the clip on the website doesn't really do that one justice. I'd say check the videos on the site for "Dance Me In" and "Taste the Last Girl" for a good idea of what they're about.

Any fans on the board?

yes.

i found it kinda surprising to hear them called up and coming, to be honest... are they getting big where you are?
they're pretty hip round these parts, and they've been on the radio a fair bit too.
radio1 evening session a while back, and stuff.
i've still to catch them myself, but most folks i know have.

i think they're great, incidentally.
i really like their sound, and i always think their lyrics are great when they come on the radio.

johnny cash and taste the last girl are the two i've heard the most.

Heh, perhaps I was guilty of optimism there! Just going off the general feeling from the band, and how they always seem to be so busy touring all over the place, and how I can never get any tickets in time. Er... except for the ones I got for them in Edinburgh and then didn't go to.

Sorry to disappoint. Newcastle way.

They were supporting some bunch called Bright Eyes in the States recently. I've not heard anything of theirs, but judging by Wikipedia they're a right cheerful lot. Maybe someone has heard of them?

I missed their show in Toronto last fall. I wish I had seen them. The Repulsion Box is an alright album, the only songs that really grabbed my attention: Rama Lama, Dance Me In and Gone.

Also a fan. Too frazzled for thoughts just now but they're playing a free show outdoors in Ayr on the 28th May.

bright eyes do my tits in, i'm afraid.
they have some good tunes, but oberst's voice get's on the nerves.

but, see, right, see, they're great as long as you only have to listen to their stuff one song at a time, see.

you should check out their 'bottom of everything' video for a good dose.
