Long term comic storage solutions/suggestions.

I'm organizing my boss's comic collection, and rather than stacking long-boxes he needs something with easier access, like "Bankers' Boxes" cardboard storage drawers (which his other assistant, not really a comics guy) keeps suggesting. I'm against that idea because they'd have to be placed horizontally, which goes against every instinct in being able to quickly find the title and issue number you're looking for.

Any suggestions?

I have had my cardboard boxes custom made. They are really sturdy and reliable. And you´re right: comics have to be stored vertically. Otherwise I wouldn´t see a point in bothering to store them at all.

Perhaps you could do a demonstration for the boss, with customers - or maybe do a questionaire...

I've had some of my collection hardback bound by these guys. They take the staples out and sew them into a buckrum cover - this is obviously a bit nerve-wracking with certain series. Works better for comics with a floppy cover, rather than anything with card stock covers.

I've also got a few metal filing cabinets with 15 A4 drawers about 2 inches deep, but they're a pain to find space for.

There is an american company that makes comic longboxes as sliding drawer things, but google isn't turning them up. Apparently you can stack them about 5 boxes high.

A couple of weeks ago the floors of my comics storage cupboard collapsed under the weight of my comics boxes.

I need a much sturdier cupboard or shelf then what is sold at places like IKEA. Each floor held four boxes of about 8.8 kg weight. That´s ca. 35 kg per floor.

Did you have similar problems? How do you store your comics? I need suggestions!
